Acer Arena, Friday 22nd February.

lots of videos, some babbling )

I have compressed the files, reducing the size to about an 1/8 of the original. If there's footage you particularly want the better quality original .mov files of, just let me know (but each concert was 1.5 gig in that format, which is why I compressed).

I can die happy. I've heard "Blaze of Glory" live. And while there are Bon Jovi songs I love more, it was Jon's Blaze of Glory album that really got me listening to the band (yeah, I rather liked the Young Guns movies *g*).

The atmosphere at Acer Arena was fantastic. [livejournal.com profile] veronamay, [livejournal.com profile] lydia_petze and I were right up in the rafters, but honestly, it didn't matter, it was just so fucking awesome to see them (plus, both concerts sold out really quickly, rear view and everything, so we were lucky to get seats at all). The concert started bang on 8:30pm, and didn't finish til about 11:10pm. With not many breaks. Now that's a show.

As a devoted reader of Georgette Heyer's romances, I couldn't resist the film about Beau Brummell (fashionista of Regency London who is so often mentioned or even appears in her books) that was on ABC tonight.

bring me my smelling salts! )

Saw Russian Ark last night with K. It's a Russian movie, filmed in one take in the Winter Palace (Hermitage Museum) in St Petersburg. Sadly, it was very boring (though K enjoyed it more than I did). It could have been a good movie, but the director was a wanker who was too absorbed in his own cleverness. That's my theory anyway.

This is not a children's book. I'm going to be very interested in the reviews of this book, because...damn.

Order of the Phoenix spoilers - big ones, so stay out if you don't want to know )

So, when's Book 6 coming out? *g*

Ok, I was going to rave about how fantastic "Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra" was, which I saw last night as part of the French Film Festival.

But I'm getting more than a little distracted by how everything has gained a weird reverby/echoy quality to it. Haven't had ear problems in years, but have made a doctor's appointment for later, cause it could be middle ear problems. Will probably have to miss the rugby later, as I don't think I could cope with screaming crowds like this *pout*.

Saw the Australian Opera production of Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld at the Opera House last night, and it was fantastic. A light, frothy operetta, it doesn't have much memorable music, apart from the Infernal Gallop (aka the Can-Can), and some of the singers weren't as good as others. However, it's a sexy fun romp, and has a brilliant new translation/recreation of the lyrics, written for this production in Australian vernacular. It's bloody hysterical, and the staging and costumes bring it to life brilliantly.

And if you've never seen a can-can done by a group, mostly male, in leather harnesses and frilly little microskirts, you haven't really seen the can-can ;)

It was packed, and there were people standing to watch the performance. I didn't know the Opera House sold standing room only tickets.

I saw this on Monday with K, and it is fantastic. I saw it a few years ago on stage (with Caroline O'Connor as Velma), but they do an amazing job of bringing it to the screen without losing the energy. Well-cast (even if I still don't like Renee Zellweger), and well-made.

LJ has been being a bitch, so I haven't replied to everyone's posts about Sinpoz. Might just do a new post, and explain what I saw the problems as being.

Went to a free screening last night of "The Banger Sisters", starring Goldie Hawn, Susan Sarandon and Geoffrey Rush. They are all very good in it (and I'm way jealous of Goldie and Susan's figures *g*), and there's some very funny parts (though I hated one scene - vomiting doesn't need to be seen), but overall, the movie was rather disappointing. It lacked direction and focus, and I suspect there was a lot of stuff that ended up on the cutting room floor. So I wouldn't really recommend seeing it at the cinema, unless you are a huge fan of the actors involved.

In more exciting news (for me, anyway), we ordered our new computer yesterday! So I should have it by early next week!

Wheee! Look at that, I'm connected at 21600 bps (and falling). Gonna have to call Telstra and complain about the crackle on the phone line.

In other news, my sister is home from overseas, and I saw "Copenhagen" last night, an awesome powerful play about the philosophy of science, the history of the development of theoretical, quantum and atomic physics, memory, self-awareness, friendships and much other stuff. Big stuff for a play with a cast of three.
