I've had this movie for ages, but only just recently got around to watching it. Which was a stupid thing to do, because it's lovely.

Please comment if you download, and don't direct link to my files, or link my journal on message boards/communities/forums etc. If you're using a download manager (which I definitely recommend), please check and make sure it is set to only 4 or 5 reconnects, as more can cause problems.

Based on a series of novels by Richard Stevenson, it's the first in a series of adventures of Donald Strachey, a private investigator in Albany, NY. The film is entertaining enough for it's noir-style mystery, but it's Donald's relationship with his partner, Timmy Callahan, that makes it must-watch material. Cause that's not "buddy" partner, that's "married as two men can be" partner. And they're cuter than a pile of puppies. (You may remember Chad Allen as one of the kids on Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman and Sebastian Spence from BSG, Supernatural or First Wave (or from lots of other things, in both their cases)).

The film isn't terribly highbudget (made for tv by the here!Network - yes, home of Dante's Cove, amongst other things), but it's a lot of fun, and as it's filmed in Canada, you'll recognise most of the supporting cast. I've got the second film (Shock to the System, and there's more to come) but only as a lower quality two-part wmv. If anyone knows where I can get an avi, I'd prefer to share that, but if not I'll upload the version I have of Shock, if people are interested.

And if you decide you're keen on them, both films are available on dvd from Amazon and Deep Discount etc.

And I totally have an ulterior motive in pimping - I want more fic, especially about their backstory *g*.

Without watching Dante's Cove (apart from a sex scene on Youtube) or The Lair, I totally declare these movies to be significantly better quality (though the sex is more discreetly filmed than DC).

Heeee! I've been a BIG fan of these movies for a long time and totally adore what Chad Allen and Sebastian Spence did the characters, even though they are miles away from the grittier book characters. The books, by the way, are absolutely brilliant. Very well written, very representative of a certain era (late 70s through the 80s) with awesome characterization.

Also, I have a good quality file of the second movie, and would love to upload it for you except it is too big for me to upload efficiently (even splitting it) to one of the free upload services. But if you have an ftp site I can access, I'd love to upload it there for you. Provided you trusted me of course, and I'd understand if you didn't seeing as we don't really know each other, lol. Or maybe you can suggest another way I could put it online, too?

Have you tried uploading to http://megashares.com/ I know they allow the file size, though I haven't tried uploading anything of that size there for a while. I tend to search for fun files and download. How I got PotC3 less than a week after it came out, LOL.

There should be another one out before the end of the year, and they've got plans to do six in total. And the actors and director are total Donald/Timmy fans - the relationship (and characters) are quite different from the books apparently, and they like it that way *g*.

Downloaded, watched and squeeeeeed! Sebastian Spence's characters reminds me so much of an early Wesley from Buffy and Angel, with the nerdiness and the outfits and the persona. I kept waiting to see Wesley, and I absolutely LOVED it! Thanks so much for sharing this :)
