This weekend, I'm not working, I'm not studying, and I have the house to myself. So I've been getting a few things done around here, and am taking the opportunity to get some serious uninterruped lazing-in-front-of-tv time. Yesterday's viewing included Criminal Minds, NCIS LA, Hawaii Five-O and Tangled (sidenote: I have a new favourite Disney character - Maximus!)

Having caught up on those other shows (Bones, Castle and NCIS will have to wait for the rest of the family), I'm continuing to work through H5O, just finished episode 11. I do enjoy the show, though there's one backstory detail for McGarrett that particularly bugs me.

Steve's grandfather died at Pearl Harbour? Making his father at least around 70 when he died? I started to watch the pilot again, to see how old his father looked, and then remembered how much I disliked the setup of the pilot (the sheer incompetence and rampant stupidity of Steve being able to take a call from his father while on an op, and his subsequent actions? Almost kept me from watching anymore of the show).

So I looked the actor up IMDB, and he's about 9 years too young, which I guess isn't horrible by Hollywood standards. It's an odd thing to get hung up on, but they then made a big deal about it in the hostage episode too, and I was just watching going "really? really?"

Yeah, yeah - of all the unbelievable things in this show to get hung up on, right? I just wish there was a fraction of the fic for Sam and G from NCIS LA as there is for H50. And there needs to be crossovers! Being SEALs is such a defining part of both Steve and Sam, there's no way they haven't crossed paths ;)

Speaking of fic, I haven't read a huge amount yet, but there's one story that I'm looking for again - posted just after DADT repeal passed the US Senate, it's closeted!Steve's reaction to when a SEAL friend of his comes out and announces he's getting married to a guy.

Since all SEAL Teams are deployed World Wide and can (and have) operate in any theater due to need, it is their skills that determine which unit they are mostly likely with as that will be their main operating area. Sam's is Arabic. He's going to be with a unit that spends a lot of time in the Gulf.

So, after all that info dump...*heh, heh, heh*, the bottom line is this, area of operation will determine more if Sam and Steve have crossed paths than anything else. I'm leaning heavily toward 2 or 6 based on what I know about Sam himself. He's highly secretive (dude he's a SEAL *puddle*) about what he did, but he's also with NCIS Special Unit. So that makes me want to put him with 6, which is a Counter Terrorism Unit. There are approximately 2000 SEAL's world wide. Very tiny community.

Look for Sam in his BDU's in a non-combatant role and check for insignia. That will most likely give it away. That and the mention of Guam. *heh, heh*

As for fic of Sam and Callen, honestly, for me when watching the series, I don't see a relationship there other than really tight friends. To me, Kensi and Deeks have that spark that would make me want to write fic about them. Callen, on the other hand, I would love to write fic about him based on his past. He, as a character, intrigues me. Especially since he can speak Russian. *thud*

Thanks for the info, I suspect that's more thought than the shows themselves put into the actualities of such matters :D

I love the way NCIS LA overtly parallels partnerships to relationships/marriages, and that Kensi/Deeks should aspire to have as awesome a marriage as Sam/G. And I see sparks, but they're more of an established pairing - first time stories would need to be set before the show started.

So, uh, yeah. See, it's like this. There was this thought. And, um, it lead to others. Followed by others. Of course some of them needed research because there's nothing like tracking down a lead. Stalking it. Seeing where it goes. Making sure you have complete and well documented details. And then tackling it, wrestling it to the ground. It's, er, fun...in a really, really, really innocent way. *innocent look*

*nods head* Uh, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. It had absolutely nothing to do with the helicopter outside dropping darkly dressed men into the water who were dangling from a string. Nothing, I tell you. *burns all her notes*
