Dr Who Christmas special

::lights cigarette:: aaah, new Who (and I don't even smoke).
Not my favourite Christmas special, but still enjoyable. That all the white men survived while everyone else died was fucked up. And the girl just has to fall for the Doctor *yawn*. I preferred Astrid's flirtation with Bannakaffalatta.
The plot was like the lovechild of Titanic, Starship Titanic by Douglas Adams (nice 42 reference in there) and the Poseidon Adventure. And that Futurama episode set on a doomed spaceliner Titanic.
But Kylie was cool, I'm glad the midshipman survived, and my favourite bit was the corgi being evacuated from Buck House and the Queen waving at the Titanic.
When the Doctor watches the Tardis head for Earth, my sister said it looked like it was going to Cardiff. I wanted to see it land on top of Torchwood, and Jack being all "now who knew exactly what to get me for Christmas?"

Date: 2007-12-27 12:32 am (UTC)You notice how every Christmas special features a mixed couple that ends tragically?
And the girl just has to fall for the Doctor *yawn*.
But the Doctor got *snogged*! :D
Has anyone ever done the collateral damage body count Ten had racked up? Because I'm pretty sure it's in quadruple digits by now.
I wanted to see it land on top of Torchwood, and Jack being all "now who knew exactly what to get me for Christmas?"
*flail* OMYGOD YES!
Also, dear Russell Davies -
You don't like religion. We GET it. Really. Easy on the anvils, mkay?

Date: 2007-12-27 01:00 am (UTC)The Doctor always has a high collateral count (except for in The Doctor Dances *g*), but yes, Ten's tenure has been pretty bloody.
I'm so glad that Londoners have learned to fear Christmas - it'd be ridiculous if they hadn't!
Dear Russ, your issues are showing. Big time.

Date: 2007-12-27 01:23 am (UTC)Speaking of - so, Astrid asks to come along, and the Doctor's all, 'Oh yeah, SURE.' And then, Mr Copper asks, and the Doctor's all, 'I travel alone.' You think he's become ageist or something? He'll travel with anything if it's gorgeous enough but a lovely elderly gentleman? Sorry, no. Humph.
but yes, Ten's tenure has been pretty bloody.
*nods* I was comparing Ten's and Nine's tenures, and I think Ten's, especially, has had a really high body count.
You know what I loved? Mr Copper telling tales of Earth Christmas - the traditions, taken out of context, sound quite ridiculous, don't they? Hee!
Relatedly: you don't happen perchance to have Doctor Who audiobooks read by David, do you? I can only find them in iPod format, and my Zen doesn't like it. Also, they apparently abridged all Jack/Ianto flirting from Another Life audiobook. *is not pleased* Booo.

Date: 2007-12-29 08:40 am (UTC)The Tales of Earth Christmas were indeed hilarious, one of my favourite parts :)
I don't have any audiobooks, alas. Membership has now been opened up again at

Date: 2007-12-30 02:15 am (UTC)Also, going through the files of JB's performance at the Kennedy Centre, I noticed that some are of album quality - apparently, there were some additional files in that folder, and I want to say a huge thank you, because of those, two were John's songs off Matador (released in 1991 and, thus, impossible to find), and another was his performance of 'Maria' sometime in 2006, which I found on YouTube and kept failing to rip the audio off. So, heaps of thanks!

Date: 2007-12-27 06:11 am (UTC)I thought it was an interesting choice to have Lord High Arsehole survive. And then to comment on it. Sort of flies in the face of 30 years of the arrogant getting their comeuppance. I'm not sure if I appreciated it or not.
