computer worries

I've just discovered a couple of folders on my secondary hard drive (couple of years old) that won't open. When I try to, I get this message.

"The disk in drive D is not formatted. Do you wish to format it now?"

They're folders of pop footage, I think I've still got a pretty recent backup from the beginning of the year, but it's filling me worry about this drive in general.

Oh my, that doesn't sound good. You should backup the rest of your data as soon as possible... My HD gave up after some errors like this.

I used the disk error check utility, and it's fixed the problem...for now. But I suspect I'll need to buy a new one sooner rather than later :(
