computer worries

erilynI've just discovered a couple of folders on my secondary hard drive (couple of years old) that won't open. When I try to, I get this message.
"The disk in drive D is not formatted. Do you wish to format it now?"
They're folders of pop footage, I think I've still got a pretty recent backup from the beginning of the year, but it's filling me worry about this drive in general.
