Well, fuck. My domain name is registered with gandi.net, has been since I got it two years ago. It's due for renewal, and I went to pay, and I require a password from my bank to process the credit card transaction. WTF?

Anyone got any other domain registrar recommendations? And how do I change, before my domain name expires in a week or so?

Random NCIS songvid rec, well-made and quite lovely (not that I'm at all biased because of the song *g*). Spoilers through to early S3.

ETA: on the other hand, only two weeks til NZ!!!

I've gone directly through Dreamhost for my recent domain registration and found them pretty good. They also have an option for having their details displayed under Whois instead of yours (if I remember right).

I had one at hostdime and then changed it over to dreamhost; I'm very happy with them, especially for the anonymity thing, which hostdime would charge for. I'm a total ignoramus about how to transfer my domain, and they made it pretty simple and painless :)

Is it perhaps asking for the three-digit code on the back of your credit card? (Or the four-digit one on the front, if it's amex.) I've been using Gandi for six or seven years and not had problems renewing.

If you do decide to go with another registrar, they'll have a specific option to transfer a domain name registration to them. Once you've filled in the relevant details, they should do the rest.

Nope, this is separate to actual credit card details, I'd entered them and hit process (or whatever the button is). It then took me to a site that seemed to be linked to my bank, and asked for my password.

Which I found incredibly dodgy and got the hell away from. But I check gandi and found they mentioned that there might be an extra step in processing credit card orders now.

And thanks!

I've always purchased any domains I've needed for myself or customers through GoDaddy and never have had a problem with them.

And what [livejournal.com profile] eponymous said about payment/transfering.

I had used registerfly in the past but just this year transferred to GoDaddy. The only problem I had with GoDaddy was on one of the domains I transfered, I didn't fully read the email and negelected to use the link there to confirm it. Unfortunately, my domain expired at registerfly and at this point, GoDaddy could not do the transfer. I had to renew it at registerfly for another year and they continue with the transfer with GoDaddy. I didn't really loose anything, I still get 2 years with GoDaddy.
I'd like to point out that I do not have my domains hosted with GoDaddy so I can't say what features they offer. A friend of mine has his own server and hosts my domains for free, so I just look for the cheapest register.

P.S. If you haven't got to look for that Cosmo magazine with Xtina, someone did get it for me. If you did happen to get it already, I'll still pay for it and take it. I can always, put one away and rip up the other for scans.

I never host and buy my domains at the same place just in case I want to change hosts, there's nothing (like a domain name purchase) to hold any of it up. (my hosting is through bizland. has been for years with never a problem and they have EXCELLENT customer service)

I did comment in your journal that I got it on Tuesday, but if you don't want a second copy, I can keep it for myself :)

And I shall make sure to read the fine print at GoDaddy, thanks!
