Oops, I upset someone on the Aussie BSB list - unintentionally!

Because I was asked to (after reposting my Melbourne soundcheck report to the list), I sent Brisbane and Sydney concerts, and the Sydney soundcheck reports. I edited my lj posts first, removing irrelevant stuff and snarky comments about other fans (like the people at Sydney who had no idea who Gandhi was).

HOWEVER, I left in They got asked "why haven't you toured here before?" (a question I found annoying everytime it got asked, to be honest) AND OF COURSE A LURKER PIPES UP THAT THEY WERE THE ONE WHO ASKED IT!

I've apologised for posting that comment and that she was hurt, but I've stood by my opinion that it was an annoying question - why were people so focused on negative stuff that a) we already know the answer to and b) the guys aren't gonna be able to answer honestly (ie you guys weren't a good return on what it would have cost)?

I so prefer it when I insult people deliberately.

Hang on a sec, I just re-read her message - because we weren't allowed to ask for hugs or songs or any of that, it left us with little else to ask.

Hugs and songs and whining they haven't toured before are the *only* things she could think of to ask? What-the-fuck-ever, I don't feel bad now.

I'm so making more of an effort (if I get the chance again) to ask what brand of eye makeup AJ uses/why Brian is the one who nearly dies in music videos/will Howie spontaneously combust one day from his increasing hotness or any other stupid non-whiny question I can think of.

The London soundcheck was half "When are you coming to X again?" and I got so fucking irritated at that as well. That is just about the most stupid and useless question you can ask any artist, because chances are they won't know.

I get first dibs on asking AJ what kind of makeup he uses. I was reading an old Rolling Stone at the library yesterday and saw a picture of Steven Tyler shopping in MAC. And he was holding what looked like foundation and eyeliner.

Oh my god, we were getting so frustrated with the questions. Maybe a bit unfairly, since obviously not everyone was at previous ones, but there are only so many times you can hear them get asked "Why did it take you so long to tour in Australia?" (when it was a stupid question the first time!). I swear we saw Kevin roll his eyes at that. I think Brian saw me pretend to strangle and shoot myself in frustration.

But there were (some) good questions! But yes, when they have to say that you're not allowed to ask for hugs/propose marriage/offer to bear children, you quail to think what's been asked before...

It's no consolation to know that the last time I sat through a Q&A session, it was with Neil Gaiman, and it was *almost exactly that annoying*. I don't think anyone had to be told not to propose, but there were so many *blatently stupid* questions about when are you coming to X and will you ever go back to writing Sandman...

Haha, I think it's almost mandatory that that particular stupid question (or tha variation of "When will you be coming to X?") gets asked at every concert. It was asked in Singapore too, and I was rolling my eyes.

I don't even know why anymore, but the question I wanted to ask was to Nick and it was "Do you in believe in fate/destiny?", which on hindsight is such a hokey question. LOL. Oh, and I wanted to ask them to please sing "End of the Road", cos they sang that when they first came here like 10 years ago and I thought it would've cool to hear it 10 years on. Haaaaa. Plus, any Backstreet singing is always good in my book.

I don't have a problem for interesting song requests, I'd love to hear them sing that too. At one of the soundchecks (Brisbane I think), someone asked for a song that was gonna be at the concert that night! The tour manager pointed out no song requests at that point ;)

And I think that's an interesting question - and lightyears ahead of "why haven't you toured here before?"

My sarcasm meter needs to be recharged; if you are semi-serious about the eyeliner question; AJ was asked about that in a radio intv in Rochester (NY) during the U.S. NG tour last year. It's Opie Eye (sp?)
