I'm trying not to panic, but I went to turn the computer on and check my email this morning, before heading off to my physio appointment. My neck and back are a lot better, probably back to around 90-95% of normal.

BUT THE COMPUTER WON'T TURN ON.

I turned it off last night because of the storms, and everything else seems fine this morning, but nothing happens when you turn it on. I won't have a chance to take it to get looked at until Wednesday afternoon, I'll try and keep an eye on email and lj from work and school, but doubt I'll be able to keep up.

::deep breathes::

Please let the hard drives be salvageable, even if the computer is fucked.

PS - cast of Brokeback Mountain are on Oprah today in Australia, I was hoping to be able to post this when the info might be of use to people.

try unplugging it, or turning off the master switch on the back, and letting it sit for like 20 minutes, then turning that back on and trying to reboot. my computer does that sometimes and it scares teh *shit* out of me.

Thanks, I'll give it a longer try this evening, I only got to switch it off at the back for a minute this morning (stupid 7am appointment). Hopefully, even if the powersupply is screwed, it won't be too hard to get it replaced.

Also, could your surge protector just be shot? Or that ONE plug? Mine did that to me once and it turned out to be that one outlet on my surge protector. Also, just got through and double check all of your connections. I know you know that already, but sometimes when you're (understandably!) stressed, hearing it still helps.

*huggles*

It didn't seem to be anything like that, but the other problem was that I had hardly anytime to look at it, my physio appointment was 7am. But I'll check when I'm home, thanks :)

*hugs* I hope it ends up being something you can fix easily. I know how frustrating it can be!

Worst case scenario, I burn all the stuff I have off my harddrives and SEND THEM TO YOU.

Dude, I have totally been thinking about that already! Or I made Lex a set of like 17 data dvds of my BSB stuff when she was here, she can post them back to me or something. And I think I did a set of Nsync dvds for [livejournal.com profile] engenda late last year...

ahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....dude. mine has just done the same-- it shut itself off and wouldn't start again. my power pack (power supply) is fuxxored. I eventually got it going again (the main switch at the back), but it made so many weird noises, I didn't want to risk leaving it running. I'm currently trying to get a new power pack, as it's still under guarantee.

ANYWAY. my point is: I FEEL YOUR PAIN. good luck!

I think I'll take it out to the place we bought it from on Wednesday afternoon, and hope they can replace it (if that's the problem). Computer is over 3 years old, but so long as my hard drives are safe, I don't care what I need to pay (or just buy a new one!).

Also, try plugging the computer into different sockets, in case it's something that simple.

Mine did the same thing recently. It ended up being the power supply, and it took the guy a grand total of 5 minutes to take the CPU apart, unhook the old, and put the new back in. Here's hoping that's all it is for you, too. :)

Bugger, I've seen the download of the Oprah thing at Sel's and it's mega cute.

Hope your computer's feeling better :-(

I noticed it late Sunday night, but had already turned the computer off because of storms, so I figured I'd post it early on Monday and hope that was enough warning. Always the way that somethings gonna come up!

The same thing happened to my laptop the other week. Thankfully the nice guy from IBM counselled me over the phone while we restarted it with and without the battery about 4 times, then it worked. I probably would have kissed him if he was in the same room, lmao!!

Fortunately, it was just the power supply, thankfully :)
