erilyn: gabe and mikey's hips (pop xover)

I went to "An Evening with Peter Jackson" this evening, the first thing of this type he's done, where he's just talked about making LOTR and his film-making in general. Sadly, he wasn't wearing shorts, but his shirt was quite loud. Also, since he's lost weight, there's an uncanny resemblance between him and Dom. [livejournal.com profile] hnix, [livejournal.com profile] sinbrat and I all noticed. As others have probably already posted, the absolute highlight of the night was the previously unseen footage that was shown - which I had wondered about beforehand, what on earth hasn't been put in on the dvds or otherwise shown somewhere?

The answer - some of Peter's own personal collection of LOTR bloopers. Dear god, let these be released or leaked somehow. I'll try and post what I can recall of them tomorrow.

From Ask Billboard (via toftbsb and NLY).

The leader of the male pop vocal group pack is Backstreet Boys, with more than 29.5 million albums sold in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. 'N Sync is second with 27.6 million.
New Kids on the Block have shipped 17.5 million albums in the United States, per the Recording Industry Association of America. (Most of the New Kids album sales came previous to the establishment of Nielsen SoundScan in 1991; that is why I am using RIAA figures.) 98 Degrees has sold 6.9 million, while O-Town has moved 1.9 million.

Interesting, I had the impression that Nsync had the higher US sales, while BSB was ahead on worldwide figures. I'm assuming that's based on 4 albums each (Backstreet Boys, Millenium, Black and Blue, Chapter 1 vs Nsync, Home for Christmas, No Strings Attached and Celebrity).

Glad to hear you had so much fun with the other two. :) And ooh, that is interesting. *memories for later reference*

It's really not the impression you get from the media and fandom, is it?

Back home, at least, it was always Backstreet that people listened to and whose dance steps we used in skits and stuff. My kid sister (who's 4 years younger than me) and her friends are more used to having *NSYNC around, but they also own Backstreet and Aaron albums. And the radio stations keep on playing INBYH, but never any old *NSYNC songs. And hmmm. Now that I've mentioned it, I wonder why.

You know, the figures for 98 aren't anything to sneeze at either, and I remember them getting VERY little airplay, which is really too bad. I think the fact that they were great eye candy sort of took away from the fact that those boys really CAN sing (actually, that could go for BSB and N'Sync, too).

I was surprised by how much they'd sold too!

Too bad they didn't get more credit for it. There's four more boys I REALLY miss.

Backstreet are far bigger outside the US than Nsync are. I don't remember ever hearing Nsync songs before I got into popslash, but a number of the Backstreet ones were familiar, and it's so rare to hear Nsync on the radio here, but some of the Backstreet songs get played (especially As Long As You Love Me, I'll Never Break Your Heart, All I Have To Give).

I think the big thing, though, was the record for the number of albums sold in the first week of sales, and everyone sort of forgot about everything else.

I think that might be a big part of it.

Huh. I would have figured it for the other way around also. Interesting indeed.

It's very interesting, especially as Backstreet are certainly far bigger worldwide.

Also an interesting point. I'd forgotten that as well.

Eee! Bloopers! Lotr! Lotr Bloopers! Please, please let's them be leaked or officially released sooner rather than later (which I'm thinking he'll release them for the special 10th or whatever anniversary DVD).

WRT to N'SYNC & BSB, that's what I thought so too until I saw the figures on Rock On.

I had looked at Rock On before, but hadn't thought to compare the two. Backstreet's sales add up to a couple more times plantnium than Nsyncs.

For some blooper details *g*.

I would have LOVED to have seen Peter speak. I REALLY HOPE the footage leaks or they release it. They should release a DVD with all the bloopers and never before seen stuff. I think people would by those just like it was the movie.

I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that the footage surfaces somehow. And it was great to get to hear him speak, in fairly intimate surroundings (about 2000 people *g*).

I wonder if he's planning on doing any in the states. I would really like to hear him. I got my extended versions out last night and watched all the behind the scenes and making of's. I'm so intrigued by how it all goes together. Like the whole process is just WOW. :)

You guys were there? I was there too! How far behind am I on the flist, that I do not know this stuff?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought he looked like Dom. It was the beard scruff, methinks, coupled with the nose.

[livejournal.com profile] lydia_petze and [livejournal.com profile] veronamay were as well *g*.

The resemblance was very distracting. I think it's something about the shape of the face as well.
