and avoided a fine ie I went and voted in our local goverment election this morning. Huge range of candidates to vote from, 3 groups of 2, and one loner. We'd only seen info about two of the groups (the current reps for the ward, and another pair). In some places, these elections have been a huge deal, but despite there being some quite important local issues (development, development and I don't know...development?), it's been quite low key here.

We vote at my old primary [grade] school, normally in the school hall. There's construction work going on, so this time, it was in the Old Building, in one of my old classrooms. It's a big room, cause the Old Building is the original school building from 1903. I was suddenly having flashbacks to fourth grade. Of course, the best part of voting is running into people we know, and often haven't seen in years, up at school, but the cake stall (to raise money for the music program) isn't bad either.

Now I'm gonna have to see if there are sociable activites occurring today - I have wee little mini choc muffins to share *g*.

Thanks for reminding me Erilyn. I'd forgotton about the council elections completely. I don't think I'll get out of a fine two elections in a row. Just call it a hunch. *G*

You're welcome *g*. And yeah, better not to risk it, though it's so easy to forget about local elections, the turnout rate must be lower than state or federal (which also quite possible to forget, but harder).

I don't know what's happening, haven't heard from Snapetoy yet. You're always welcome to come hang anyway.

Now, to vote...

Yah, sure. I bought a bottle of coke this morning, but not diet. Otherwise, there's fruit cup cordial. And cheesels.

And in the midst of social responsibility, I drop sparkle ... Have those videotapes I sent shown up in the mail yet?

Added sparkle increases interest in anything, including issues of social responsibility (witness my increased curiousity about Kerry's campaign because of Chris, and yes, I realise that's kinda sad *g*).

But no, I haven't received them. When did you post? ::glares at Australia Post::

Did my civic duty too.
They finally moved us back into the primary classrooms. The last few elections have been in the infants and cramped (the primary classrooms had a fire).
We had 6 groups of 3, and too many of them were independents, but not really. Plus we had to vote for mayor.
And yes, voting is always a catching up thing :)

We had a poll on development ("Should 5 story buildings be allowed next to one storey residences?" or soemthing like that) which I didn't know about in advance. Saw our local state member handing out flyers for someone when I went past later, don't know who he was backing as theoretically, they were all independants. Much later, when I went past again, I noticed the sign out front:
LOCAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS
CAKE STALL
SATURDAY 27TH MARCH

It made me laugh, that the cake stall was advertised as much as the voting :)
