So Friday was playing with da kiddies, and dinner with the family.

Saturday was my cousin's ordination, and then a family gathering for that. Despite my issues with the church, and specifically the Sydney diocese, this was a very important day for him and his family, so I'm glad I could go. Plus, I think it's the first time I've actually attended a service in St Andrew's.

This afternoon, I had some friends over who I don't catch up with as often as I'd like, so this was of the good. Am now stuffed, and will probably skip dinner. Made chocolate cake for the first time in ages, turned out pretty well (mmmmm).

Now, if I could get a job and start getting out of debt a bit faster, all would be well :)

My sister has switched from her West Wing marathon, to Babylon 5. Which is good (I was sick of the WW theme and haven't watched B5 in yonks), but it turns out I can't find half of season 1. Does anyone have my tapes? It's the middle of S1 (War Prayer to TKO), and you would have had them for a while, as I can't remember loaning them in ages. I'm fairly sure they were all bought tapes, so there'd be four tapes.

Fuck I'm getting annoyed with myself. Just as I find some stuff, I realise I've lost track of other stuff. While I'm asking, who has my tape with the Homicide:LOTS ep "Closet Cases" on it? And does anyone have my Sentinel Wonder Tape (bloopers, songvids, interviews)? It might just be misplaced, but I don't think so.

Hope you all have a fantastic time, whatever you are doing this festive season.

I've spent the day making wombok salad, potato salad, setting the table and other fun stuff. There'll be 10 people here for lunch tomorrow (11 including my brother's dog, who gets his own chair *g*), and 2 more will stop by after lunch.

Won't be a day for jumping in the pool, but better mild and cloudy then hot and swimming while the smoke and ash swirl, like last year.

So tired. How we deal with grief in this family - spend a lot of time and energy cleaning the house and preparing lots of food for after the service.

It was a small and simple service, and the celebrant spoke very well. Rels came from all over the place - various parts of Sydney, northwestern NSW (about a 5 hour drive, oneway, for them), Canberra, even Launceston. Found out that one of dad's cousins was badly affected by the recent bushfires. While the house was ok, they lost several containers worth of posessions (they haven't fully finished building the place and moving in). And her husband wasn't with her today, was at another funeral. Crappy time for them.

Nice to catch up with some of the family, many of whom I wouldn't have known if I'd tripped over them in the street.]

Really should go to bed now. Guess the funeral was good for something - I cried for the first time since I was told she died. And did I have a tissue on me? Course not.

Went to a wedding yesterday (it was nice, and went smoothly), and a Christmas party last night (good to catch up with people).

My grandmother died during the night. Joanie, my dad's mum. I haven't cried, and we're not really talking about it much, apart from some discussion about the funeral.

I haven't seen her in a couple of years, because she didn't know who we were anymore, it upset her at times if people she didn't know would come by, and my dad and grandfather didn't really want us to visit. They prefered us to remember her as what she was before all the strokes and problems. The last time I saw her, she thought I was my mum, and asked me when I was going to have kids. So, in a way, it's like she was already gone.

She was a lovely lady. I miss her.

Next Sunday is looking likely for a Sydney luncheon, so of course my family starts pondering moving my uncle's birthday thing from Saturday to Sunday. I expect a recap if I end up missing this :)

How rude

Poor [livejournal.com profile] calemiri, doing me a favour by dropping something off, gets intercepted before she reaches the front door, and I'm basically pushing her back into the car straight away. 'Cause there was Christmas dinner with the half of the family we won't see at Christmas happening, and my mother goes...odd, when it comes to entertaining. Obsessive and stressed would be another way to put it, and I didn't want to be absent and not within helping range while she was trying to get dessert ready. Much of the time, still residing in the family domicile is good. Sometimes though, I start calculating how soon I could pay off my debts if I ever got a proper job, and then would be able to afford to move the hell out!

At least I gave her Firefly eps for her trouble

Cleaned some of the pool fence and have set up and decorated the Christmas tree. Guess I should go get high off silver cleaner now.

Wonder if [livejournal.com profile] hnix and [livejournal.com profile] sinbrat would care if I invaded them? Cause family time is getting a bit much now with me unemployed, dad retired and mum on holiday :) Sin might, since it'll mean pulling out the new vids that Hannah and I haven't watched yet...*g*

Don't get me wrong, I love my family and get along well with them. It's just the 24/7 thing.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] tboy was having Clark/Lex moments at a wedding, while I attended a lovely outdoor wedding (for a neighbour I've known my entire life), and there were many babies and small children. One of them could totally play Toddler!Lex, or a small Weasley. But the Lex likeness was exacerbated by the light purple outfit he was wearing :) This icon is so appropriate for this post *g*

The bride looked beautiful, the couple looked very happy, and it all went smoothly.

Went out to dinner at the Bondi Iceberg's club. Had the 'I don't wannas' before I went out, but once I got dressed and drove over there, had a great time.

By the way, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hnix, I'm going to hell. That is all.

I'm back! And in pain.

Last run of the week, returning to the hotel yesterday afternoon, I took my first real stack of the week. On a flat run, coming to a stop, one ski got caught in the thick, sludgy snow (there was a lot of snow this year, but *way* too warm), I came out of it, and face planted into the snow, getting the wind knocked out of me by a stock to the stomach. As I curled around myself in pain, my sister assumed I'd broken an arm, but the injury count is a rather sore neck and shoulders, and a painful spot on my abdomen.

Other than that, it was a nice week. Snow could have been better, but we had some good skiing, I read a couple of books, and Sam and I saw an echidna wander across a track and bask in sunshine among some rocks yesterday afternoon.

Think I've caught up with lj, but haven't with email yet. How dare things keep happening while I wasn't around ;p

It was my brother's 30th birthday party last night. Well, actually it was a group birthday party for him and 3 of his friends whose birthdays are also in April. Had it in North Sydney, and it was nice to catch up with some of his friends whom I've known forever, but haven't seen much of lately. Took a roll of photos of people, often ambushing them with my blinding (or so they claimed) flash :) Didn't even get that drunk, as I was so thirsty later on I was on water and lemonade only.

My hair stinks of smoke. I must shower.

Mum and I took the cat to the vet for a checkup this morning. Tortie is not a good car passenger, and spent the entire 15 minute drive expressing her displeasure with heartbreaking yowls. However, she was very well-behaved when the vet examined her, and she was given a (mostly) clean bill of health. We left her there for the day, as she needs to get her teeth cleaned, which they do under general anaesthetic. I'm trying not to be worried about the anaesthetic, as she was fine when she had this done last year, but she's not a young cat. She's lived with us since I was in 5th grade or so, and don't want to contemplate losing her.

Hope they don't have to remove any more teeth, she'll be toothless soon.

Rented "Moulin Rouge" today so my parents and sister could finally see it, and they're watching it at the moment. Had somehow completely repressed any memory of the Duke and Harry singing "Like A Virgin".

I ::heart:: Ewan. I'm such a teenage girl at times.

Monday must be musical day. An hour and a half to Buffy!
