Hopefully I'll have internet and home phone by the end of the week (posting from ex-home), if all goes well, but I've officially moved. Most things have gone well, except didn't get quite as much done as we hoped (mostly that the laundry cupboards aren't assembled, dryer isn't wall-mounted yet etc), the guttering is more fucked up than I realised, and I've been royally screwed by Freedom Furniture. It's gone from my couch was "ready for delivery" and they were just holding it for me, to "we're out of stock in whole of Australia of half of it and you won't get it til April, but we'll loan you a smaller thing in the meantime...once it is in stock, that is..."

My letter of complaint is a thing of beauty, I must say, and I'm campaigning for a signficant partial refund (I have no idea if I'll be successful, but I'm motivated to keep harassing them for a while).

And as soon as I'm living on my own, I get sick, hah. Thought I was having a reaction to my new bed (the smell or something), but its continued all day, and some of the symptoms seem far more like a virus or something.

Hooray moved!

And EEK at the furniture thing, that's shocking. I hope they do indeed refund you some of it, because SHEESH.

And hope you're feeling better soonest!

Yay, moving in!

Did Freedom not offer you a full refund? It might be beneficial to call the ACCC and ask what their obligations are in this situation.

Also, if you bought a new mattress, I'd love to hear what you chose. I've been mattress shopping lately, reading Choice articles and lying down in stores, and it's all a tad overwhelming.

I got a Sleepmaker, but it's such a personal choice I'm not sure if that'll help. you're welcome to have a nap on it and see how it feels :)

I don't necessarily want a full refund (I assume they'd probably have to if I asked for it), I still want the couch, I just want it when it was promised to me, not in April. And if I have to wait til April, they can give me some of my money back.

Aww, thanks.

I'm just so irritated by how sleazy the mattress industry seems to be: the pseudo-scientific terms for everything, the way mattresses are always on sale, the selling the same thing under different names in different stores. Everything's stacked against making a smart consumer choice. I quite liked one of the mattresses at Ikea, and may end up going with them just because you know what you're getting and for what price without the bull.

Also, if you read this tonight, please check your texts. :)

Oh man, that sucks so much about the couch!

Um. Wall-mounted dryer?

Is this not a thing in the US? Here, many clothes dryers are sold with brackets so that they can be fixed to the wall, to save floor space.

o_O Are your dryers smaller than ours? Because I can't even fathom hanging mine from the wall, it's so big! But no, most of the time we definitely don't hang them! Actually, we tend to use the tops as we're folding. ;-)

Mine's small capacity, but the bigger end of their range (6kg capacity) has the feature too.

That sucks for people with small laundrys if it isn't available.

It would suck, for sure. I know when we remodeled our house and were planning the bathroom we put the laundry into, we made sure to allow plenty of space for both machines, but a lot of people don't have that option.

Ok. Here's a dumb question. If the knob is at the top and it's hanging - isn't it difficult to reach? I'm so damn short... ;-)

You hang the machine upside down - that's why you've got to make sure the model is designed to be wall-mounted before you do it :)

1. Linda would like to come to your house warming, although she's not sure of her schedule on that day. She's a maybe.
2. The day after, we are having her birthday lunch at Blueplate - would you like to attend?
3. Hope you get better soon!

1. Hope she can make it!
2. I'll let you know.
3. Am pondering whether to go to work today, leaning towards no.
