That was pretty fucking awesome, easily one of the best episodes this season (that's somewhat damning with faint praise, I know, but it was good).
I didn't stop laughing the entire episode, and there's no way to pick the funniest line of the episode (Puck not recognising the libray? Kurt on Gap Boy's hair? The story of the 1929 Warblers? Santana's voiceover?) They spread the love around amongst the kids, used Mr Schue as comic punctuation (his best role), and I totally didn't miss Sue. Lauren rocks my world, Santana is awesome, and we got to see her and Brit out of uniform! And how freaking adorable are Rachel/Kurt/Mercedes? They need to keep that going FOREVER.
Blaine got fleshed out! He's a clueless, dorky idiot! So I can root for Kurt/Blaine more (I did before, but it was mostly cause I like Kurt being happy, thought they had chemisty, and like Darren Criss - I didn't feel like I knew Blaine at all). Kurt showed surprising maturity, first dealing with Blaine being into someone else, and then telling Blaine how he felt, in a calm way. Awww. There was weird not-resolution though with them, which is probably the best outcome you could hope for of one person saying to their friend "I thought you were gonna ask me out" and the response being "wow, I had no idea, and am completely clueless". Interesting to see how they're gonna handle this, because they've managed to keep Blaine sympathetic through the Gap Boy crush and dashing Kurt's hopes, but I hope they give them a good build for Blaine realising feelings for Kurt (if they go there, I'm just assuming that they wouldn't be stupid enough to waste one of their biggest attention getting possibilities, but this is Glee - they be pretty fucking stupid). On the other hand, I hope they don't move this at freaking GLACIAL pace. The straight kids are all kinda slutty, let the gay kids see some action.
And hah! Darren's pink sunglasses made a guest appearance, which distracted me from being torn between massive embarrassment squick while he serenaded Gap Guy, and laughing my butt off.
My biggest complaint isn't Finn/Quinn (yeah, they suck, whatever), but that Kurt wasn't singing lead on the final song. I can deal with some Warblers numbers, cause I enjoy them (love me some a cappella pop). I've learned to deal with non-main characters having some numbers, cause I feel it lessens the burden on the main cast, in terms of recording and practice time (it just drives me insane when it's like Paltrow getting 3/4 songs in an ep). But it just would have worked so much better in a number of ways for it to be a Kurt lead. If nothing else, as paralleling the shift in the dynamic, with Blaine coming down off his pedestal a bit. Plus, since it was a scene with Warblers and ND, it should have focused more on the person who is the link between the two. Plus, I love Chris's voice.
I still want Kurt back at McKinley. FREE KURT! And keep Rachel away from Finn, she's been so much more awesome since they broke up.

Date: 2011-02-09 12:39 pm (UTC)I really like where they are going with the Lauren/Puck storyline - it's not neat and tidy, and she is a badass, but she still can get hurt by a TERRIBLE (if well-intentioned, by a moron) sog choice. And her reaction to the song was amazing and perfect. Dear Ryan Murphy - I know it's because you were never the popular kid that you SUCK so hard at writing them, but from one (fat, queer, nerdy) misfit to another, you are pretty good at writing losers and weirdos and fuck-ups.
Um, this is the part where I say that Dave Kurofsky is my favorite character on the show, and duck when the tomatoes start flying.

Date: 2011-02-09 12:47 pm (UTC)It was Thriller that did it for me. I didn't care about Karofsky's inner pain and turmoil and breakthrough when he was on the field performing with ND and Kurt was in the stands watching. Like a switch flipped for me, I was instantly over it.
So can we hurry up to the inevitable reveal already? It's been six episodes since the kiss, the gun has been sitting on the mantelpiece long enough, it has to get fired soon. I do not want Karofsky/Kurt though.
I loved Puck's performance, but Lauren's reaction to the song choice was PERFECT.

Date: 2011-02-09 12:58 pm (UTC)And I want Kurt back at McKinley too, but mostly because I miss Kurts outfits and I miss Kurt singing lead on SOMETHING, ANYTHING, COME ON SHOW. The last real lead we got was the Evita number, which was great, but seems like forever ago...
And I am actually writing an EPIC Kurt/Dave, but it's future fic! And I really need to finish it before the redemption episode josses the fuck out of me. *puts writing in my weekend schedule*

Date: 2011-02-10 10:57 am (UTC)I think Kurt/Blaine have a lovely little chemistry, more so during songs, but I think that's because they've deliberately had it be more or less one-sided. Going forward (if they do), I think it could get better if they actually go for it.
I miss Kurt's reaction shots to shenanigans in the choir room. I miss him interacting with Finn (I want to see them develop a brotherly relationship). I miss Kurt's outfits.
Good luck with beating the jossing! This show does that in the most random ways (y halo thar, Kurt not boarding factoid).
I really need to track down and check out a story to see if its been updated - a WIP where Karofsky was blackmailing Kurt into secretly dating him. It's creepy and horrible and really well done - you feel for totallydeluded!Dave, but OMG I need to see Kurt escape the nightmare.

Date: 2011-02-09 08:31 pm (UTC)Why did they have to make Firework sound so much like the original? The appeal of Glee is them reworking the songs, dammit.
