Thoughts while episode in progress. Thank god for Castiel (heh), cause 6x01 and 6x02 were total snoozefests. Hope there wasn't anything too important, cause I skipped chunks.

I love Dean's prayer.

Writing for Castiel is the writers' favourite thing these days, isn't it? The whole Hello exchange was classic.

"I think we can rule Moses out as a suspect."! Air quotes!

Also, way to help out the Dean/Castiel fans (not that I'm complaining) - "Dean and I do share a more profound bond."

I guess we're supposed to be concerned/curious about why Sam's such a bastard these days, but I'm not really caring at this stage.

Okay, seriously, show? Torturing a young (black, cause I can't see that as a coincidence) kid? That's beyond fucked up >:( Especially mostly just to make a point about Sam's issues. Which will end in boring man tears at some point.

Sam and Dean are just supporting players in the Great Angel Melodrama. And I'm okay with that, to be honest. I hope Crowley comes back too.

You know what I find really interesting? People are way (WAY) more upset about Sam paying for sex than they are about TORTURING LITTLE CHILDREN. I really don't know how to feel about that (yes I do.)

I agree with your thoughts on Castiel. I quite enjoyed the first two eps but this did feel more onto it, IA.

I thought (I hoped) perhaps I'd seen an unrepresentative sample, because that's the impression I had too.

People seem to be saying that TORTURING LITTLE CHILDREN was ~necessary for the ~greater good (ok then, and even that still doesn't get into the bit where Sam didn't even seem conflicted) whereas the sex worker thing was gratuitous - but I think I'm really missing some sociocultural conditioning, because a lot of people have described that opening scene as "shocking" &c. OH AMERICANS.

I think the writers wrote themselves into a corner with the kid. If you've got 3 white cops shooting and retrospectively framing an unarmed teenager, making it a black teenager is a stronger statement about police racism.

But that means that the guy's younger brother is (most likely) black too, and having him tortured on screen makes a far stronger (but unintended) racial statement.

I could have handled it if the kid had remained unconscious, which is what I was expecting - his body would have experienced pain but he wouldn't have felt it. Having him wake up and scream in agony was unexpected, and horrible.

That's exactly what I was thinking, and how I felt about it.

And I have seen people trying to mitigate Our Heroes actions by saying that the kid deserved it for what he'd done *headdesk*.

Yeah, we SO totally needed that torture scene in order to remind us that Dean is the Good Guy and Sam is the Bad Guy. That's not offensive at all *eyeroll*

Seriously, are they going to put us through that story arc AGAIN? The thing I liked about season five was that they both grew past those roles and started really relating to each other instead of just reacting *sigh*

I'm dead serious about preferring the Castiel Show, I'm so bored by what the writers are doing with Dean and Sam (again and again).
