Date: 2010-06-01 11:41 am (UTC)- Divide finished mixture into as many colours as you want (you're gonna make a lot of bowls dirty for this, heh).
- Dye with food colouring to desired tones.
- Put globs of cake mix (that's totally the technical term IMO) into cake tin, try not to have too big a bits of any one colour.
- I ran a knife through the mixture, in a swirly way, just once. I didn't mix the batter much once it was in tin.
The actual orange cake recipe is:
ORANGE YOGHURT CAKE
2 tspns grated orange rind (I often end up with a bit more rind)
2 tspns grated lemon rind
125 g (4 oz) butter
1 cup castor sugar
3 eggs, seperated
1.5 cups SR Flour
1 cup natural yoghurt
2 tablespoons orange juice
Add grated rinds to the butter, gradually beat in the sugar. Continue beating until creamy, then beat in the egg yolks, one at a time. Fold sifted flour into creamed mixture alternately with the combined yoghurt and orange juice. Beat egg whites until stiff, and fold in thoroughly. Pour into greased tin and cook in moderate oven (350F) until skewer comes out clean. Remove from tin and let cool. Ice with orange/lemon icing.
NB - This is not a large cake, and I often make a one and a half mixture.
NB(2) - 1 tspn of vanilla essence is a nice addition.
