okay, that's more than a touch melodramatic (and I'm not even referring to my exam next week, fuckfuckfuck).

Woke up about a quarter of an hour ago, and as I'm lying there pondering why you can't program yourself to sleep between set times, I notice that the light outside isn't...normal.

It's orange. I rush to the window and all I can see is a hazy orange glow. WTF? Are we having a bushfire and no one told me.

No. The dust storm has hit Sydney. This is outside our front door. Apparently if I'd woken up half an hour earlier, it was blood red.


(the speckles are the flash bouncing off dust I think)

My car! Our freshly (still in progress) painted house! Everything is going to be coated in dust.

we've shut up the house as much as possible, but unfortunately I have to go out later to go to a study session at work (otherwise I'd be able to stay inside all day).

so we'll have to see what happens :\

Hmmm, I missed the dust storm here in Adelaide but it went through central SA. We got the flooding rains like Melbourne (with hail even!). 2 days rain and our reservoirs are up to 80% full.

The only other time I've seen the sky look anything like this was during the 1994 bushfires (cause that's the time they came closest to us).

It was interesting in how quickly it ended up clearing - I went into the city across the bridge a bit before midday, and it was horrible. By 3pm, you'd barely know it'd happened.

Dude, that dust is insane. I swear, if that had happened here I'd... probably check LJ to see if the apocalypse had started, heh. But wow. We were looking at a bunch of pictures on the herald's site, it's crazy. And I heard it is meant to hit us tomorrow sometime, so... thank you? NOT THAT WE NEED MORE TOPSOIL. ;)
