oh fuck, MCR are playing Soundwave in February.

It's been many many years since I've been to a big outdoor music festival like that, not my thing, but for MCR (plus Faith No More, Jane's Addiction and Taking Back Sunday) I am so tempted. Hmmm, I said to someone recently that MCR would be the only band that would get me to consider going to Big Day Out.

I am hoping so hard for sideshows too. There's totally room for it in the schedule:
Sat 20th - Brisbane
Sun 21st - Sydney
Fri 26th - Melbourne
Sat 27th - Adelaide
Mon 1st Mar - Perth

NIN did sideshows when they headlined last year, so it doesn't look like headliners are unable to do them.

The Sydney show is at Eastern Creek Raceway, where I saw the Alternative Nation music festival a long time ago. Great lineup, including Faith No More funnily enough. But it rained and the place became a mudbath and the toilet situation was dire.

That's a pretty good line-up. Do see Four Year Strong if you can. Do not under any circumstances see All Time Low.

I think I recoiled from the screen when I saw their name.

To be honest, if there are sideshows that I can get tickets for, it's unlikely I'll go to the festival. Me + big crowds + standing in the sun = really not good.

My feelings about festivals are basically the same as your feelings. I need to stop proclaiming how I am Done and Too Old and Crotchety for them cos then this stuff happens. ...having said that I expect we will be seeing you there in Feb. :D :D :D

I'd go for MCR and AFI... but I'd be the oldest in the crowd!! Not keen on the festival type format either.

I nearly diiiiied when I saw the lineup. No exaggeration. :P

I went this year and apart from horrible queues to get in, it was pretty smooth. I remember being amazed to find, at 9pm, that there was actually still toilet paper in the bathrooms! WOW!

So I'm totally going, but I'm crossing my fingers for a MCR/TBS sideshow for all of us to go to as well. :DDD

You know the only reason that MCR are coming are cause TBS are coming too, so MCR won't be no-friend losers like they were on Big Day Out (poor delicate flowers).

OMG I WENT TO THAT ALTERNATIVE NATION GIG AND IT WAS HORRENDOUS.

I just to post that because you brought back horrible memories of being cold and miserable and not wanting leave because of bands I wanted to see and the fact they had to light BONFIRES so no one froze to death.

Also last year we waited three hours to get into Sydney Soundwave and missed Jacks Mannequin...so much bad organisation >:(

OH GOD, I'D FORGOTTEN HOW COLD IT WAS, BUT I REMEMBER THAT NOW!

did you end up covered in mud? I managed to stay fairly clean, because we weren't in the crowds close to the stages, but as we were leaving, my friend R slipped over and ended up with mud all down her side, after avoiding it all day.

My current plan is probably to try to buy a Soundwave ticket, but if they do sideshows and I can get tickets to one or two of them, I don't know if I'll go to Soundwave.
