Last Sunday evening, we had three bandicoots running around our backyard like crazy things. We've seen evidence of them being around in the last few years (ie lots of holes in garden and lawns) but I'd never actually spotted one before, let alone three at a time.

Grabbed my camera and got some video, but it was twilight so I've played with the brightness and contrast a bit to make them easier to see (only got 1 at a time on camera, alas), but it's still not the clearest. They're such weird little animals, and the way they move is just peculiar. But not anywhere nearly as bizarre as kiwis (dear New Zealanders, your national icons are FREAKING ALIENS).

With video like this, it's no wonder the world thinks we have kangaroos roaming the streets of sydney.

I... didn't actually know that bandicoots were a real animal. /o\ They look pretty cool though. And your backyard is beautiful.

I think they're cute! But weirdly sized, they look like they should be teeny, tiny animals, like shrews or something, not rabbit sized.

Oh, THAT'S what those are! Saw some in Mexico last year and had no idea what they were - we took to calling them "rat-bunnies," because well, they looked like a rat but hopped like a bunny. Learn something new every day!

I think they must have been something else similar, these are marsupials that I don't think are found outside Australia, as far as I know.
