erilyn: gabe and mikey's hips (fall out boy)
[personal profile] erilyn
Monday night, [livejournal.com profile] hnix was my date to the Vice-Chancellors graduation dinner to honour PhD recepients, award winners and high achievers. We both looked damn sexy (half the reason I wanted to go was to have an excuse to wear a new dress I bought recently), and did our best to pretend to be mature adults (especially since we had a member of the University board at our dinner table). They made the function space look pretty nice, mostly through dim red lighting in an attempt to hide that it's the ground floor of the student building (below the food court). Also, the chairs were wearing frocks. There was a random wandering magician forcing us to watch him perform card and coin tricks during pre-dinner drinks and nibbles (very wtf? moment). The food and wine was surprisingly good (especially the delicious rack of lamb for main course, om nom nom nom). However, they had failed to read my RSVP properly, as they hadn't allocated [livejournal.com profile] hnix a seat, but this was sorted out before we went in for dinner.

Work's going ok at the moment, keeping me busy and giving me too many excuses for not getting to the gym more often.

Criminal Minds is my favourite tv show at the moment, a combo of it being consistently good and other shows not being at their best. My sister and I have decided to take a break from Heroes, and see other shows. Heroes, it's notyou, it's...actually, it's totally you. I don't care and I hate most of your characters. I'll catch up if things improve.

If I loved Fall Out Boy more, I think my heart might burst. I love the new songs and I love their stupid faces and ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

And wow my computer speakers are not balanced, because I could pick out some of the guest singers with not too much difficulty (ok, some, but it was doable) on What a Catch, but couldn't hear the others AT ALL (even fiddling with the balance manually) until I listened to it through headphones. I can't pick favourites between these, there's just too much love in my heart at the moment. Just in case anyone's missed them or curious:

+ I Don't Care
+ Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On A Bad Bet
+ What A Catch, Donnie

(I have a new fannish holy grail which I will never see realised in person, but do hope it gets caught on camera at some point: a performance of What A Catch with most of the guest vocalists, if not all).

Hey, snap! I'm just getting really into Criminal Minds (and am watching it right now). Been gorging on fic since the weekend. Our fandoms might be colliding again.

It's such a fabulous show, I've loved it for a while now, but it's standing out from the pack this season. If you find good fic, please rec! I've read almost none (I was particularly looking for Morgan/Reid, but good anything, especially gen, would be tops).

I do like this SPN/Criminal Minds crossover - http://www.fanfic.otherplaces.net/defect.htm

I did read a good (and very long and plotty) fic on the weekend that was Morgan/Reid here. I've been reading my way through the entries on [livejournal.com profile] cm_slash and while there are some fairly good fics there (and only a few unreadably bad ones), and a couple of very good ones, I haven't found anything outstanding yet.

Oooh, thank you! Some other stories I've liked are

Reid/Tony DiNozzo (NCIS) http://sperrywink.livejournal.com/205596.html
Morgan/Reid http://sperrywink.livejournal.com/196346.html

That was an awesome fic (the first one up thread thar), thanks for the rec. The one I recced you isn't nearly as good, but it is surprisingly readable for all that.

For most of this post I thought you were telling us that Hannah, as your date, was a catch. Not that she isn't, of course, but I realised later you were talking about something completely different..

How do you know I wasn't talking about both? I am the master of the single entendre!

Actually she commented at one point that people were assuming we were a couple :)

I hadn't heard What a Catch, Donnie at all so I grabbed it. Thank you! So can you help me with the guest vocalists? I think I can pick out 1 or 2 but I'm not sure. Who am I hearing.

Elvis Costello - Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On A Bad Bet
Gabe Saporta - Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy
Travis McCoy - Sugar We're Going Down
Brendon Urie - Dance Dance
Doug "Does Decaydance" Neumann - This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race
Alex DeLeon - Thnks Fr Th Mmrs
William Beckett - Growing Up

Headphones are highly recommended to pick them out, they alternate back and forth which track the guest vocalists are on, so listening to just one (or playing with speaker balance) can help.

Thanks! I had Elvis Costello and Alex DeLeon and that was about it. Of course listening to it on my computer at work does not compare to head phones as you said.

My pleasure :) I have to make myself stop listening to them over and over again, I don't want to make myself sick of them, but I'm head over heels at the moment.

I'm always trying to find places to go in a new dress. I love buying dresses.

Thanks for uploading the new FOB songs. I hadn't gotten around to grabbing Cooperstown, so I snagged that.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only who hasn't bothered with Heroes this season. Also, I nabbed the FOB - because, well, it's FOB and I haven't heard any of it yet.

I watched the first two eps, hopeful that it'd get back to S1 addictiveness - but I just have better things to do with my time than waste it being annoyed by a show, so I've got to let it go :(

Yay, you had the other songs as well! I grabbed the last two, thank you for sharing! Man, I'm really loving this new stuff. I was worried that Infinity On High would be the only thing of theirs I'd be into. :D
