what's in a name?
Jan. 18th, 2008 07:27 pmOk, in my defense, I was REALLY INCREDIBLY bored at work today.
I'd been talking about names, and the meaning of names with someone, just joking around. So a bit later, I started looking up the meanings of a couple that we were talking about, and one of the names was Ryan. According to the site I looked at: Ryan = king
So I got curious (and was bored): Brendon = prince. (Which made me grin and think of jokes about the king and the prince consort).
Spencer: steward, administrator (which is when I started to almost giggle out loud, cause how perfect! Spencer is the one who actually get things done while the royalty faffs about!)
Jon: God has given (awwwwww). Except...his middle name Jacob = SUPPLANTER, which is when I gave in and was actually giggling out loud.
ETA: it only just occurred to me to look up Brent. First meaning I find = burnt (or steep hill).
And then I eventually went back to reading the paper online, cover to cover. I WISH I HAD LJ ACCESS FROM WORK ON DAYS LIKE THIS.
(PS - Gerard means "brave with spear")

Date: 2008-01-19 11:13 am (UTC)But yes, I rather desperately want a Panic fairytale, where young King Ryan (whose boyhood friend Spencer is his right hand man and steward) meets handsome Prince Brendon.
Possibly Ryan is cursed by a wicked witch[1] to never being able to smile and laugh, and his kingdom wallows under this cloud, until the antics of a visiting minstrel (or jester, as some call him) show signs of breaking through. Turns out the minstrel is actually a prince! He is wandering the world due to...disagreements with his family, and is not much needed there anyway since he's a younger son. So, Prince Brendon takes on the challenge of breaking the curse. On the quest, Jon plays a key role in breaking the curse and/or bringing Brendon back alive, and makes Spencer the Steward stammer and blush in ways that no one has ever seen.
It is kingdom tradition/law that the king must marry a princess, but it isn't specified that its a woman, so King Ryan and Princess Brendon live happily ever after (though he gets very huffy if people actually call him Princess, so Spencer does all the time).
[1]Pete? Who is merely misunderstood (didn't think the curse would actually , you know, WORK) and turns out to be quite nice, though still a prat at times, once Brendon's bard friend Patrick shows up.
Edited to add a bunch of words that were kinda needed for sentences to make sense.
