Ok, my servage site has just been suspended (I'm assuming for a day, again), as usage this month went from 39 gig last night to 78 gig this morning to 689 gig now. umm...WTF?

Sadly, the stats that they provide are absolutely useless. I know this is what I get for posting media unlocked, but I like being able to do that. Maybe I will have to switch to only providing the password on request.

I KNOW! I believe sometimes download managers can confuse webhosts - the multiple connections make them think the file has been downloaded more often than it actually has, but even so...holy moly.

Apart from not wanting to bring it to their attention *g*, I've got no proof that I haven't used that much. I'm supposed to be able to view info on referring pages and usage etc. but they don't show anything.

But it sounds more like a technical problem with logging or download managers than like someone giving out your links. I mean it would need about 800 downloads of your latest upload to get to ~700 gig.

Yeah, I assuming download managers, because even with hotlinking, could that many people be interested in the movie in that short space of time (like 6 hours or less)?

When the account gets suspended for going over the daily 120 gig limit, it's only offline for the rest of the day (it happened to me last month, but it was only a little over the 120 gig, and I still suspect download managers played a role).

So hopefully, it'll be back within a day.

Uhoh. I hope the uploading of stuff didn't play a part in that? At any rate, I just got up and it appears the upload was completed during the night. Hope this means you can access it in a day or so. :-(

I don't think uploading would have been a problem at all, and it looks like it's uploaded just fine. I should be able to share it as soon as my account resets in the next day.

Servage has a tendency to do weird shit like that for no reason, as would seem to be the case from other people on my flist. They also disable due to daily bandwidth overusage, so you might want to be careful of big files.

I'm not enthralled with Servage, I might check around to see if there's anyone else in their price range.

I have no issues with them, but then I haven't been doing any non-locked sharing. I think you'll be lucky to find anything else.

It's not the bandwidth issues mostly, it's the problems some people keep having in downloading from me, haven't been able to figure out what the issue is.

There's two different sorts of problems people have had. One is where the file doesn't download completely (say only 300 of 350 meg). The other is that it appears to download fully, but they get error messages when they try to unrar (I think this occurs this can be avoided by not using Firefox to download).

You could always ask people to limit connections when using download managers. I know some other places I dl'ed from in the pas did that, max two connections and two retries or something like that.

Still, weird how download managers can screw with bandwidth like this....
