That was a bit disappointing, especially compared to Utopia and Sound of Drums. The "I do believe in timelords! I do believe!" solution didn't quite work for me, nor did Dobbified!Doctor. And there was a criminal underuse of Jack. I didn't want the culmination of Martha's storyline to be reduced or anything, but there was just so much to get into this episode that he was so sidelined.

Martha, Martha, Martha. I have such mixed feelings about her leaving. It works with the storyline, given what she and her family went through, but I've really liked her (apart from the annoying crush on the Doctor that I was always annoyed on her behalf about). I hope she's in a lot of next season episodes, even if she's not a full-time companion. The scene where she starts laughing at the Master was just wonderful. I did not believe the rumours about her leaving, so the ending was quite powerful for me.

I'll believe the Master is dead when Stefano stays dead on Days of Our Lives. Oh, John Simms, if only we could have had you longer. If only next season could have been the Doctor and the Master re-enacting the Odd Couple. The death scene was brilliant, the Master having victory at last.

I'm glad it was Jack's decision to stay in Cardiff, not him being abandoned again or being too "wrong" for the TARDIS to cope with. It'd be hard to watch next season of Torchwood knowing Jack was only there cause he didn't get to leave with the Doctor if he'd wanted to. I'm disappointed by the lack of kiss or even hug in saying goodbye. Oh well, we'll always have Paris the radiation room scene in Utopia.

Did Jack know Martha wasn't going with the Doctor? Would that have changed his mind (not in a not-liking-Martha way, but he might have been concerned about the Doctor)? If Torchwood's not back til next year, couldn't he have stuck around for the Christmas special?

But his farewell sounded awfully final (c'mon, give us a nod to it being a big universe, and them both being longlived), especially with his random little story leading to the Face of Boe revelation. I'd seen speculation about that, and was impressed by the random stuff that fans dream up...still can't believe the show went there. It makes me...a little sad. The Face of Boe is deeply amazing, and I'm glad Jack didn't live until the end of the universe, but five billion years is still a long time. But if it's true, at least he died saving all the people in "Gridlock", with the Doctor by his side.

Hmmm, I hope (probably forlornly) that there's a mention on Torchwood of Martha's family, maybe something about Jack being in touch with them. He's just spent a year in hell with them, after all. He'd know them even better than he knows Martha. And I definitely want a mention of Martha, possibly a bit of Jack on the phone chatting to someone, teasing her about her hot paeditrician boyfriend maybe?

Speaking of year in hell, how many Master-torturing-and-killing-Jack-over-and-over stories are already in progress? And did Jack spend the entire year tied up? Or did he just prove too uncontrollable? And what, he couldn't be shirtless and tied up?

Oh damn, I just had a brilliant idea, which will never happen and I'll now be disappointed. If they do another Doctor-lite episode (like Love and Monsters (blergh) or the brilliant Blink), it should be about the wacky adventures of Martha and Jack, teaming up to save London.

Unrelatedly, I really really need to stop reading spoilers for TW. Though I did read something interesting to make up for a crappy one I'd already heard. But no, spoilers are bad (for me), must stop!

I dunno, I kind of liked Jack being the one to tell the Doctor directly, even though he didn't know himself. Of course, I'm *hoping* the Doctor and Jack will meet again, despite the final-soundingness of that scene.
