Australia's Next Top Model
May. 30th, 2007 05:10 pmI LOVE THIS SHOW!
I don't know if I can watch another cycle of the American series[1], because this is so much better (than the recent ones).
The girls are actually (for the most part, ignore the Olsen twin clone and a couple of others) potential models. The photoshoots and challenges (for the most part) are relevant and not ridiculous gimmicks (now look beautiful while skydiving!). It was a good move lowering the age limit to 16. An American fashion guy they met commented that the American contestants couldn't hold a candle to the Aussies, and were just a bunch of mallrats (methinks Tyra insulted him at some point *g*). I'm amused by how they don't bleep the swearing, and in previous series, they showed way more skin (that would get blurred on the US version), but that's not been an issue this time.
ETA: the designers and fashion people they meet with are respectably important, including the editor of Australian Vogue (the winner gets to do a fashion spread for them).
The last couple of eliminations have been quite wrenching, and the host and judges have been crying as much as the girls, which I've found really touching. And next week is the live finale, so I can't be spoiled, yay!
I know there are some Top Model fans on my friendslist, so I totally urge you to check it out. Episodes are available here on Youtube, or there's a community that I belong to that some are available to download ;)
[1] I lie, of course.
