I saw this mentioned on the TWoP forums, and was amused at my obliviousness.

On Dr Who, Rose Tyler and Martha Jones. Oh, almost forgot Ianto Jones, on Torchwood.

On Queer As Folk, Vince Tyler and Stuart Alan Jones (the originals of Michael and Brian, if you've only seen the US version).

And here I thought it was bad that Gareth David-Lloyd played Yanto Jones in an episode of another Russell T Davies show, "Mine All Mine". Dude, use other names! *g*

Though it's probably still not as bad as the main two male protagonists on Babylon 5, Jeffrey Sinclair and John Sheridan, having the same initials as Joe Straczynski, the creator ;)

I always notice names - it's my "thing", though, a creator will often make them significant somehow.

Tangentially, Sam Tyler in Life on Mars was so named because the creator's daughter liked Rose :-)

Ah, see I tend not to read articles - I'm tending to not get too involved in fandom stuff and keep up with media cause of my spoiler-phobia. My desire to be surprised outweighs all else.

Queer as Folk UK is totally worth seeing :) Even though I only have a US icon.

I do know that Stuart Alan Jones was so called because Russell T Davies' boyfriend's middle name is Stuart.

I guess we're lucky he's more imaginative about other things.

Which is why I hadn't thought much of Martha and Ianto sharing a last name [1](apart from her not being welsh, and thinking they could come up with a bit more variety, surely *g*).

Just finished Greeks Bearing Gifts (Hi Daniela!). I was kind of meh about the show at first, but there were a couple of especially good episodes and now I'm totally hooked. Owen/Gwen! Ianto is full of manpain! Captain Jack is so mysterious and can't die! I love it.

The quality of the writing is all over the place, and you've got some very good and kinda meh (imo) still to go, so it's worth sticking through the lesser eps.

Ianto's manpain is great, but I love his completely deadpan humour too :)

Best moment yet: When Jack bursts into the room in a blaze of glory and takes out all the Benders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Benders_(Supernatural)) cannibal villagers, and one tries to go for his gun, and Jack is all, "OH REALLY?!?" and wastes him. AHAHA.

To be fair, Jones is a ridiculously common name - second in the uk and 1st in Wales. Even Tyler is 451st out of 270,000 surnames reported by more than five people at the last census.

Honestly, nothing will ever beat Casey on "Sports Night" being torn between Dan and Dana. JESUS AARON SORKIN COULD YOU NOT HAVE MAYBE OH I DON'T KNOW MADE A BIGGER DISTINCTION THAN ONE FREAKIN' LETTER AND A SET OF BOOBS?

OMG, how could I not mention Aaron Sorkin? Let alone the Dan/Dana thing, how about both Casey and Sam on West Wing having exes called Lisa? And I'm sure there were more, but I've not watched either much lately.
