Yellow Water - photo essay

Last July, as part of our family trip to the Northern Territory, we visited Kakadu National Park, which is on World Heritage listed (for many reasons). It's in the tropical monsoonal area, so we visited during the dry season, but the incredible inland wetlands are still spectacular to visit. Yellow Water billabong (or Ngurrungurrudjba) at Cooinda is probably the most visited, with multiple boat trips running several times a day, but the place still feels incredibly pristine. The wildlife watching is incredible, with 30% of Australia's bird species represented in Kakadu, plus crocodiles and more.

But apart from that, the scenery was just spectacular, and I've spent a while trying to narrow down to some of my favourite photos (I would never have stopped if I'd included my sister's photos too). These twenty were taken over two days, and link to 1024x768 versions (the 400x300 don't really do the place justice *g*).

It was an incredible place. We visited it one evening, then went back at dawn the next morning to do a two hour cruise. As soon as we came back from that, we checked and booked to go on the sunset cruise as well - so good we had to do it twice!
