A desperate plea - I NEED FONTS!!1! I made an icon in Photoshop the other day, and realised I haven't installed any fonts from the old computer on this one, so I'm begging you - please share with me your font collections or knowledge on where to improve mine. Plus, a reminder on where exactly I install them would be much appreciated.

I bought "To Kill a Mockingbird" on dvd today, mostly because it was only three dollars, and who doesn't love Gregory Peck as Atticus. I also ate a fuckload of yum cha with [livejournal.com profile] slashingthefox, [livejournal.com profile] iibnf and [livejournal.com profile] livian_silver. Unfortunately, I came home rather dehydrated and have been feeling rather crappy for the past few hours, but have refreshed enough to have just eaten dinner, several hours later than everyone else.

My cousin's wedding went very smoothly yesterday, and was quite lovely. I got very misty-eyed as the (beautiful) bride walked down the aisle - I turned and looked at my cousin looking at her, and he was welling up, and I'm such a sap/sympathetic crier. It was also quite funny at times, like when he said "I will" before the minister had even finished asking him everything. It was a very Christian wedding - the ceremony was conducted by the brother of the bride, and the sermon was given by the brother of the groom. The reception was held down by the water, the food was good, the wine not so much, caught up with family, an unattractive friend of the groom hit on me (I pleaded sore feet, and it totally wasn't a lie - I went and sat down and took my shoes off and they were all puffy! Like post-long flight puffy. So weird), but really the only important thing was that the bride and groom looked very happy. It was even good company at dinner - my sister, brother and sister-in-law, and the groom's two brothers and their wives. And I wasn't being sarcastic when I added (during a toast to the bride) that my cousin's have good taste in women, both their wives are great people (even if I have to avoid talking anything regarding religion and related topics with minister cousin and wife, as they are staunch Sydney Anglicans = very conservative).

I missed you by about 5-10 minutes :( But I had to go to bed, since work is pretty frantic and I was trying to recover from the weekend. I'll try to be online in the evenings more this week, I'll just have to make sure to login into AIM or drop you a comment when I am *g*.

Installing fonts is really easy, you just cut&paste the font file into the fonts folder, which can be found in the control panel. :)

Hmm well everyone else has already said it, but, dafont.com. As to installing them - it's in the windows sections um probably something like c:/windows and then select the fonts folder.

Yay, thank you! :D Clearly I've been very font-slack, as I haven't installed new ones in years, and have never been to the time-eating dafont.com *g*.

Try this place AFTER Jan 15
http://www.webpagepublicity.com/free-fonts.html

Also, to install a font:
Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel
Open the FONT folder.
Go to File>install new font

Then navagate to where you have the font file. It can be anywhere on your computer. It's easier if you put all the fonts you want to install in a folder together. If you have the option "copy fonts to the font folder" checked, regardless of where you have the new fonts, they will be copied to your windows>font folder and then you can delete the originals.

You can select 1 font or use the button to select all. Then just click OK and they will be installed.

Thanks so much for the rec, and the instructions. Clearly, I've been very lazy about updating fonts, it's been years since I've done it! *g*

Here's another place:

BTW, I was told that if you have too many fonts installed it will slow down windows start up. That was years ago so I'm not sure if the newer versions of windows still have that problem or not, but it makes sense. I know that it takes longer for photoshop to load the more fonts you have. At any rate, I'm sure it won't be a problem but don't install fonts just for the heck of it.

I recommend Blambot.com as well. The fonts there are mostly for comic books, but if you're looking for very weird or stylish fonts, they've got some fun stuff! I used fonts from them for the titles and credits of my short film. :)
