Superman Returns
Jul. 6th, 2006 09:57 pmMy school friend K is home for a visit, and I've been having a fantastic time catching up. Tuesday evening, not only did we have a fun hours-long chat, I finally got to try out a local Lebanese restaurant that I've been meaning to check out for years, and it was pretty nice. Then last night we went and saw this - and the cinema was so much emptier than I expected. I was baffled, until during the previews, K wondered "isn't the State of Origin [big football match] tonight?" Of course, I must remember this as a great evening to see movies *g*. But speaking of previews, "Little Man" (upcoming Wayans brothers film) looks like the most disgusting vile excuse for a movie that I've seen advertised in a long time - it's even worse than I thought from
iibnf's description of the trailer. I felt dirty after just the preview.
I gather that many people had very squeeful reactions to Superman Returns? I wish I could say the same, as there was so much I really enjoyed about the movie (ie most of it) but there was one major flaw - Superman and Lois's relationship. Their behaviour made me deeply unsympathetic to both of them. She's basically married with a child, and yet Mr "Truth, Justice yadda yadda" sees that as no obstacle to stalking and mooning about. Also, just cause you're the unknowing sperm donor, doesn't make you the kid's father - I think the man who has raised him for 5 years gets that title. Also, clearly Richard doesn't know Superman is the father, but does he know he isn't? If he doesn't, my opinion of Lois sinks way further.
See, I liked Richard. A lot. And not just for how he looked in a white shirt while wet. Seems like a thoroughly nice guy. He deserves way better than Lois. As does the kid-whose-name-I've-already-forgot - like a mum who doesn't take him along on investigations!
And I thought Sydney made a very pretty Metropolis! Hello, harbour. Hello, Centrepoint Tower. Hello, Martin Place. Hello, St James Station and Hyde Park.
