Well, that sucked
Apr. 4th, 2002 10:52 amWell, that sucked. A crappy storyline, with heavy-handed moral
messages that managed to be insulting to everyone, and a boring het pairing plucked out of some writer's ass to try and unnecessarily up the angst level. The premise had vague possibilities, and the guy who played Billy was suitably creepy, but what a dull episode. Far too much talk. Why the endless going's on about what Billy actually does to cause the violence (pulling the inner misogynist out in men, my ass)? Why the pointless discussion about why Angel wasn't affected, when every other time the fact that he's a vamp has sufficed?
Why did Cordelia have to be saved from offing the demon? Cause we
can't have the lead female 'kill' a human-looking bad guy? Spare me.
Why did Wesley have to suddenly develop an interest in Fred? Are they seriously trying to say that Wesley would have been less traumatised by what he did if he only regarded Fred as a friend? Kudos to Alexis Denishof for being seriously menacing in those scenes, and for Amy Acker being far less annoying than usual.
Best parts of the episode were Angel teaching Cordelia to fight. Ok, it's like a season and a half later than I'd like to have seen them start doing this, but better late than never. I do enjoy their relationship. In fact, I like a lot of the relationships on this show. Pity half of them have vanished since Fred joined them.
Overall, an offensive yawnfest. Not to be rewatched.
