Ok, I don't have great notes from this concert, so I'm gonna direct you over to [livejournal.com profile] eponymous's journal for her recap of the concert. I'm just gonna focus on some of the amusing/random stuff. More of my photos from Sydney here. I have more videos from a friend, but I'll give them their own post.

I've only deleted the really crappy ones, so the quality is mixed.

Before the show, got to say hi to [livejournal.com profile] fickwalker, and we ran into one of the NZ girls we'd met at various things. She was feeling really sick, and starting to freak out at the thought of missing the show. For which she had a front row ticket. We got her to buy some water and drink it slowly, and found out later that she did make it through the show, but went to hospital the next day (she was fine though, just a bad bug). Poor girl, but she enjoyed the show anyway.

Sydney Entertainment Centre

[livejournal.com profile] canadiankracka, [livejournal.com profile] indybrat, [livejournal.com profile] not_nele and I were sitting at the left hand (as you face the stage) end of the fourth row. Next two us were two girls that we'd met at the MCA and elsewhere, and they were a heap of fun too. Now the good thing about the fourth row was that it was longer than the three rows in front - there were no seats directly in front of us, just empty space. We asked the security guard if we could go up to the front (they let several rows in Brisbane), but she said "no, that's what I'm here to stop you from doing". We were kind of relieved - it meant the space wasn't gonna get filled up with people from further back. And they were fairly strict about this, I saw them pulling back third row people who climbed over to the front. A couple of minutes later, Lex was smart and asked if we could pop forward and take pictures, we'd go straight back to our seats, honest. The guard was like "hmmm, I guess so, as long as you're good". And we were! We'd run forward, take pictures, and scoot on back. She was cool, and we thanked her at the end, but they loved us cause we were well. Sadly, being right at the corner and right near security, I was very nervous about filming. Especially since one of the bodyguards was standing almost directly in front of us, directing the security after people (and spotlighting them with a torch occasionally). It was also a little distracting, people coming and going around us, but it definitely had it's perks.

The crowd was much bigger and more intense, the atmosphere was great. With the seats at the side, you definitely tended to focus on whichever of the guys were right in front of you, rather than trying to watch the whole stage which I was doing at Brisbane. We had lots of great Nick time, but they all came over at various points. Kevin was almost too close when he was singing crouched down right in front of us!

Beautiful Woman

Mmmm, Nick + guitar, there is not bad here. When Brian asked "who wants Nick to play?" (before Climbing the Walls) he jumped up and down saying "me too" when everyone cheered. So adorable.

Brian loves [livejournal.com profile] not_nele! Major eyecontact, waving and singing right at her.

Nick kept having problems with his fly. No actual flashing (alas), but lots of adjusting, right in front of us. Also right in front of us was Howie leaping onto Nick's back. Those boys love me. Or want me dead. Or both. I saw eyecontact and nodding, and thought something fun was coming up, which is when I put the camera up and started to take the picture. Sheer luck then made the timing work out well.

We sat down during Crawling Back to You and half of Drowning, because we needed the break, and we had such a good view of them on the upper stage even sitting down. Lex and I then proceeded to overemote our way dramatically through them. Really, our actions to CBTY have to be seen to be believed, except half the time it ended up being what the Boys were doing ;)

Nick got to complain about AJ getting underwear tossed up on stage, during his post-INBYH pre-JWYTK talking bit. Kevin wandered around showing off the underwear and decorating microphone stands with it.

In Brisbane, Nick spat red Gatorade around during his "let's rock" buildup to JWYTK. This time, AJ rushed over and they attempted synchronised spitting (tsk tsk, nice boys shouldn't spit).

Brian cleaning up after AJ and Nick (I'm sure it's not the first time)

Kevin gave a shout-out to Caroline O'Connor, an Australian actress who he was in the Broadway production of Chicago with (she's probably best known as Nina in Moulin Rouge). I saw her in Chicago here (not sure when, couple of years before the movie came out), and she was amazing. He made her standup so he could see her in the crowd, and asked if they were getting together after the show. So sweet.

I'm not entirely sure when this happened. Howie came down off the stage at our side, and started to go along the front barrier. I darted forward, and he came back to where I was, slapped my hand and winked at me. I ran back to my seat, and just smiled and shrugged at 'our' security guard, "hey, I just had to"-sort of thing. She just grinned at me.

During QPG, Nick went over and put Marcus's headset on, and was doing some fast talking. Couldn't figure out why, til he made a break for it into the crowd. He ran down the aisle right next to me, and I stuck my hand out. Not going to grope him (seriously), I just assumed he'd be slapping hands as he ran past, it wasn't even a conscious thought. However, Marcus snarled at me and I yanked it back before he could rip it off and beat me to death. I know, he wouldn't, but still! So Nick was singing in the crowd right near us, then went back past us, went along in front of the barrier, perched up on it and leaned back into the crowd. I thought he was gonna vanish from sight! Also, I was rather dense when I saw Brian on the headset, and so was taken by surprise when he vanished off into the crowd too. When he got back on stage, he made a tsk tsk gesture in the direction of the crowd. I then saw a bodyguard go up into the crowd where he'd been, and seemed to be tearing strips off a couple of girls, who then seemed to run away from their seats. Have no idea what that was about. All this almost distracted me from AJ getting a green hardhat from somewhere, and wandering around in that. Nick was too busy in the crowd to do the stairs dance with Howie, but made up for it by dragging him off stage at the end.

They both love going back and hanging out with the musicians

Hello, you pretty corporate whore

This will never stop amusing me

Neither will AJ's microphone holding during IWITW

Brian and Howie doing camera tricks again (notice that they're actually at diff ends of upper stage)

Just as they were disappearing down the lift thingys at the end, Nick pulled off his shirt revealing a black tank top and very nice arms and shoulders.

After the concert, we hung out with [livejournal.com profile] fickwalker and [livejournal.com profile] ravensilverwing, then headed up to the Sheraton to have drinks with our English friends - Lisa, Vicky and Sinead. Howie and Kevin were in the bar, Howie with some label people and Kevin with Caroline O'Connor. I nearly went all fangirly over Caroline at the bar, but restrained myself. There were also a heap of musicians and bodyguards, some doing some very determined chatting up of all the girls around (some of whom did not look old enough to be in a bar - god I'm getting old). Saw AJ downstairs in an area off the lobby, hanging out with a musician. Leaving the hotel, I almost managed to walk into the door (no, I wasn't drunk, I'm just dumb - and it was hard to tell which part of the glass were the doors). Walked outside to see someone wildly pointing (in a restrained manner) in my general direction and trying to say something to me. I'm like what? what about AJ? Ohhhh, as the man in question walked out of the hotel just behind us and headed off, bodyguard in tow. Probably after seeing me almost walk into the door *g*.

We were just chatting outside a little while later (waiting for [livejournal.com profile] not_nele to return from showing people how to walk up stairs and into a bar - long story *g*), when we realised he was back. There was hardly anyone around (one girl got an autograph), but we didn't want to bother him at that point, cause they had McDonalds in their hands. Seemed rude to go up to him when he had hot food. We're just not pushy enough to be really successful stalkers.

Headed home (it was like 1am at this point), and that was the end of my sparkly adventures in Sydney (though yum cha and the art gallery on Tuesday were very nice). You'll need to pester [livejournal.com profile] not_nele and [livejournal.com profile] canadiankracka for other Tuesday details. All I can say is that they didn't get back to my place til early Wednesday morning, and both were fast asleep, either side of me, for most of the flight to Melbourne. My favourite moment was when [livejournal.com profile] not_nele woke up and asked "What the fuck? Oh, we're flying" and passed out again.

Since we were all so buggered, changed plans about going into Melbourne for sightseeing. Instead, we piled into [livejournal.com profile] indybrat's car, along with [livejournal.com profile] sinden. Plus five people's luggage. It was an interesting fit, but we had Now or Never cranked up high and there's nothing bad about driving with friends and singing along loudly with Nick. We then lay around [livejournal.com profile] indybrat's lovely home, watching tv and footage, broken only by a shopping expedition. This included looking for inappropriate clothes we could wear to the Melbourne concert, since we'd been too sensibly dressed (comparatively) at previous ones. I won with a black skirt about two inches long, with another two inches of lace ruffles off the bottom. And a bow at the back. But a fun relaxing time was had by all, and on Thursday morning too, before we geared up and headed off for the last day of Backstreet adventures (sob!)
