SGA 2x18 - Michael
Jan. 18th, 2006 08:42 pmDear people who think the show has been too Rodney-centric lately,
See what happens when they give DH most of the week off? It sucks!
No love,
Me.
Ok, that's unfair. I can understand where people like that are coming from (*coughs*freaks*coughs*), and it wasn't only DH's absence that was wrong with this (and to be honest, I skipped some of the cafeteria scene). But it didn't help.
Good guest-star, thought he looked familiar (only ever saw the pilot of Enterprise), and it did take me a little while to decide that he was an experimented upon Wraith. I think I was in denial that they brought back my least favourite plot device ever - Beckett's Magical Retrovirus of Doom. I love sf, and am quite willing to suspend my disbelief in many and varied ways, but sometimes this show makes my brain hurt. Also, Weir and Beckett have the worst ethical standards ever, but the show wasn't nearly as heavy-handed about the Moral of the Week as they have been at times, so they get points for that. But do the plots always have to depend on the characters being stupid?
And Ronon needs to keep his hair tied back, it really doesn't look good in this ep.
Overall, kudos for trying something a bit different with their storytelling/format of the show, but I was bored or annoyed for a fair bit of it. I they have a kickass season finale, to make up for big chunks of this season. Plus, more Rodney and more Caldwell! Together, even!

I hated the exchange between Beckett and Weir at the end. It was my fault, no it was my fault. It kinda sounded like Weir was saying that of course they wouldnt get into trouble, cause she said it was ok. It annoyed me. Grr

Date: 2006-01-19 09:39 am (UTC)Weir's been irritating me a lot lately, that included.

Date: 2006-01-22 10:26 am (UTC)Yeah Weir is mightily annoying I think it's just...her whole reason to exist.
As for suspending reality for the aptly named Beckett's Magical Retrovirus of Doom...from someone who's actually done human genetic manip...BUH! I only wish it was that easy. Want to say so much more but yes...I love the concept...I hate how they've employed it.
I have to say this is my least fave ep for this season so far...

Date: 2006-01-23 08:49 am (UTC)And yeah, there are some really freaky people out there like that. Mostly, they'd just like more time for Sheppard and some more back story for him, which I don't think is a bad thing, but yeah, too much Rodney is just not possible *g*.
