This is the specs for the computer we're probably going to buy (hopefully very soon). The quote is for about $2500. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the components, had experience (good/bad) with the brands, things like that.

Sounds good - make sure the hard drive is a seagate.

I love Windows XP - it's so much easier to use than Windows ME. And I have Office XP Pro as well, the only problem I've had with it, is with Outlook - it still tries to do a send/receive when I'm not online and I can't figure out how to stop it, but other than that it's great.

Oooh, that's good to hear, I've only used XP a bit at work and a bit on mum's laptop. Ta :)

Sounds like you're getting a good machine. GeForce 2 cards are great, no point getting the GeForce 4 if you don't play games.

Not so sure about XP - I'm still fond of Windows 2000 but the longer XP is out, the more there is to go with it, and more chances to get the bugs out.

Is the 60GB hard drvie going to big enough for you ? I know you guys have a cable modem and can download lots...80GB or 100Gb isn't that much more.

Oh, and optical mouse - I love mine to death. No more cleaning plus the cool ability to mouse on your leg.

Yeah, not a gamer, but I wanted more than integrated graphics. I'm a bit worried about XP (it's been ok when I've used it, but...*g*), but they've released the first major Service Pack, so hopefully it's getting pretty stable and useful now. And it just seemed to be not sensible to buy an operating system 2 (or 4, in the case of Win98SE), when Microsoft OS only have a supported time of 5 years.

I don't have cable (sob! though we're looking at it, so fingers crossed), and anything really space greedy (like episodes) can go onto cd. And I'm planning on getting a second hard drive in the future, if/when I have the money and interest to try out vidding properly :)

I love mum's optical mouse on her laptop, though I haven't tried using it on my leg (yet!)
