Happy happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] indybrat! Hope you've had a great day.

I had two tests today - Office Tax (open book) and Management Accounting. Both were well-set tests, hopefully I went ok on them.

It's the happiest time of the year! This is the perfect antidote to my annoyance at Christmas stuff already being in shops - Don We Now Our Gay Apparel, the fifth annual popslash Secret Santa, is happening. Watch [livejournal.com profile] sesa_discuss for details!

Scans of a very interesting article about BSB here. There's a couple of points that make me wonder about their fact-checking (there's a sex video of Nick and Paris available online? Errr, no. Rumours of one ages ago, yes.). The comment about the Boys spending very little time with each other while on tour makes me sad, though there's an oddly melancholy tone to the whole article. But the image of mathy!Howie fills me with glee, and there's some interesting titbits. Some cute pics too (AJ getting a manicure *g*). I'm sure Leighanne is just thrilled about being called "Pammy-lookalike".

There's a heap of BSB articles, pictures and news that I don't link to, cause it doesn't occur to me as I get most of it from one place - [livejournal.com profile] nevergone_news (also, I don't have time to go through a lot of the stuff they link to, I keep meaning to go back to it *g*). Fantastic newsletter community, I highly recommend it.

Something I've been pondering about the Boys (compared to Nsync) is their personal betrayals. None of the Nsync guys had girlfriends or parents write tell-all books about them. No one in Nsync has had a public family nightmare anything like the Carters. There are so many parallels between the groups, but its a big difference that sticks out at me. I don't really have a point or anything (heh, hardly new), it's just a random thought .

I can't believe the download speeds I'm getting from someone on the Hub. Almost ten times as fast as what I'd normally consider a decent speed. And I've got a bunch of stuff queued up to get from her, so yay!

Oh, they *are* going to have SeSa again? Good! I sorta wondered about it--no one seemed to know for certain. I've participated for two years now, and wanted another shot at it. I'd thought about participating in the SGA secret santa, but wanted to hold off joining up for that one until I knew for sure about SeSa.

As for your poll, "Shweir" is the worst. Feh. Personally, I can't see any chemistry in that pairing, but I guess a lot of folks do. :-)

I don't see the appeal of the pairing (I was rewatching Siege III today, and there was such awkwardness in their scenes), but my real problem is the pairing name! I've never heard something so off-putting, and I loathe McShep deeply.

It took me *forever* to figure out popslash pairings. I could never understand why they just didn't write out the names, but I guess everyone likes cutesy nicknames.

But, yes, Shweir and McShep---oi. Bad. Other pairings aren't so popular, so as far as I know, they've mostly escaped the cutesy-nickname scourge.

I'm supposed to be getting disks of all the eps soon--I can hardly wait! I have Rising and I've seen almost all the eps in a couple of marathon viewings, but they went by so quickly, I didn't get a chance to think about the characters much.

I joined [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100 and have Zelenka. One hundred fics. I am insane. :-)

You are insane - but it's the good sort of insane (the sort where the rest of us get lots of good fic to read *g*).

And yay for getting disks, you need to be able to rewatch all the McKay/Sheppard important and fascinating pseudo-science scenes over and over ::nods::

At first popslash pairing names were so confusing and blah and why would people do this? But then I grew to love them, brainwashed by the sparkly as in so many things. Except for BSB pairing names - apart from honi, I almost never remember them.

Oh if only. I'm guessing you haven't suffered the visual indignity of "Sheyla", "McBeck" and "McLenka"? (except now you have. hee.)

I think there's another even more horrifying one for McKay/Zelenka but I seem to have wiped it from my memory. Why couldn't I do the same for the rest? *cries*

I thought I invented the best pairing (well, group) name in my reply to gc: McSheylnan.

Sheyla didn't make the poll cause I've never seen someone use it seriously, I've only heard about it *g*. And frankly, I think Shweir makes it look like a good idea...::shudders::

But, McLenka? Really? but whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

Sadly, I've seen somebody somewhere use every one of them seriously.* Plus "Sparky" for Sheppard/Weir. Yeah.

*except McSheylnan, of course, but since you have now released it out into the world, I'm sure somebody will use it. Without a trace of irony or sarcasm.

The day someone uses that seriously is the day this fandom is dead to me.

So Sparky does = Sheppard/Weir? I was wondering about that, but...why? It's a real dog of a pairing?

It's a real dog of a pairing?
hee. To those of us who don't get it, yes. But for the people who use it, it's a Cupid reference. JF's character called his girlfriend that or something. I've had it explained but it just sounded so intentionally obscure that it pissed me off more knowing than not knowing. Does that make sense? It's like those bizarre HP ship names that have to be explained to know what they refer to. Which just...I...you know what? Fine. If you don't want me to know what your OTP is don't talk about it.

From: [identity profile] erilyn.livejournal.com
So it's not even a reference to anything about Sheppard/Weir? WTF?

I remember the first fandom I became aware of that had nicknames for pairings (though I wasn't involved with it), Roswell. And I thought it was very strange at the time (though at least most of the nicknames refered to things actually to do with the show).

McShweir is the worst. Because I said so. And I am the emperor of the world.

Please let me have my delusions, they're the only way I'll make it through this week

Ok, that is horrible, oh Emperor.

Oooh, first person to use McSheylnan as a teamfic descriptor kills the fandom. Officially.

That's a very interesting article about the Boys, even if some facts are a bit dicey. They spelled Cincinnati wrong, for one thing. And the sequence of tours seems a bit off. I was at both Boston and Pittsburgh, having skipped Cleveland, and I swear they sang Happy Birthday to Denise in Pittsburgh. Oh, well, the idea of Kevin telling Paris to knock it off more than makes up for it.

I adore popslash pariing names, especially the NSYNC ones, but probably because they were the first shmushed together ones, and evolved naturally, and the ones that followed in other fandoms seem a bit forced.

And that's a good point about NSYNC having less personal drama and betrayal than BSB. It seems very true, but then NSYNC doesn't have Jane Carter, so that helps.

Oh, well, the idea of Kevin telling Paris to knock it off more than makes up for it.

There was a radio clip! Nick and Kevin were doing some promo in Canada (?) and they played what Paris had said (while out promoting House of Wax) and Nick was all, 'I'm trying to be a bigger person here' and then Kevin said how he took her aside at a party and there might've been a meltdown on my part with 'Awwwwwwwwww, protective!Kevin' but you can't prove it.

Someone out there *must* still have the clip.

and I swear they sang Happy Birthday to Denise in Pittsburgh.

Don't you have a picture of that? I could've sworn it was you who did.

Yep, that's me. I just wasn't sure if I was getting the two shows mixed up, but judging from the picture, it was PGH.

Protective!Kevin. I hope he scared her.

Protective!Kevin. I hope he scared her.

I'm pretty much convinced that he had. Kevin's scary on a regular daily basis when he's not *trying* to be intimidating so I think when he actually means it, children cry and run to their mommies. *meanly* I hope Paris did that.

Plus, Nsync pairing nicknames have the slight justification of the far too many J names *g*.

And thanks for pointing out the other errors in the article, it's interesting to see where the media gets things wrong.

Well, I think the NSYNC names we've pretty much settled on using are mostly clever, instead of stupid. But maybe that's me. I kind of like FishBone and Cartick and Bootyboys and Letterboys, too.

*pouts* I don't like that article. It made me sad *sulks* and *that* makes me want to run and read every.single.piece of loving and fluffy Boy!slash. Because yes.

Were you able to make out what it says at the top of page 5, about Nick stealing someone's cigarettes and being a male Britney Spears?

Nope, couldn't make it out. Though the more mistakes that become apparent in the article, the less weight I give it, particularly regarding the guys' relationships with each other. Just think of how much fun they're having on this tour!
