Oh goodie, it's time for the annual 'let's rant about people who want to avoid spoilers' fest. No, it is good. It's like they're conveniently wearing a sign saying "Hi, I'm an inconsiderate dickhead, please avoid me".
It's all very well for people who don't *have* the spoiler problem to carry on like that. They get everything first, so damnit, they've never *had* to worry.
But you're supposed to totally avoid anything at all to do with said fandom until you've seen it!!!! It's not fair to those of us who have seen it if we have to type twelve characters to make an LJ-cut for a month or two and let people catch up!!!!
/*gets out spork gun, shoots self*
Okay, sorry. Obviously, I totally agree with you. Most of those people, I want to start following their fandoms so I can find out when something big is coming and then go prance around their journals writing the surprises in caps and extra large font.
Heh, I have seen people suddenly change their view on spoilers because the UK have gotten eps before them. How dare another country get the show before them!
Well there are people who are stupid about the whole thing. Who get over the top angry if someone dare says "I liked X" or "I didn't like X" - because if you are going to be that sensitive about something you should probably rethink what you read.
But there's a difference between saying "I didn't like X" and "OMG! NOooooo! How could they???? That sucks!!!!!!!" and I think that's where I draw the line.
Yeah, there are people who are over the top, but there are on every issue. I think others just take them as an excuse to do whatever the fuck they like, on the grounds that "some people" won't be happy whaatever they do, and fuck the rest of us over.
We are thinking alike again. I used the line 'one side says entitlement whores and the other says inconsiderate arseholes and never the twain shall meet.' *g*
I got narked about it as well. I honestly think it's one of those instances that unless you've been a non-North Americans shoes and have been spoiled -- repeatedly -- and then given the platitude of 'oopsie, I thought everyone had seen it' then thou shalt not point fingers and accuse. And, also, thou shalt not proclaim your point as the only sensible one as if it's a pronouncement from the Mount.
Hell, I've seen other North Americans spoiled, who hadn't been able to watch something yet (timezones, lack of time, didn't have channel etc etc), cause someone had to post whatever they wanted right then. But it does tend to come down to an us vs them, and IT DOESN'T HAVE TO! It's not a zero-sum game, no one is saying "don't discuss future spoilers" or "don't post about the current ep", all it takes is some freaking common sense and everyone can be happy.
Last night during Lost, I posted, without a cut tag, that Jack was annoying the shit out of me. I don't think that a spoiler, because it happends every freakin' week. :)
But yes, courtesy and common sense shouldn't be the rare commodities they frequently are in fandom.
People are morons! I don't have it as bad as you but I empathize because I'm in the West and by the time I get home from work everyone's seen everything already.
Heh, morons don't discriminate by country or timezone, everyone can be spoiled at some time or another *g*. What particularly frustrates me is that its not some huge insurmountable issue where there's no solution that'll keep everyone happy, cause with just a bit of common sense and judicious use of cut-tags, it is!
