Joss fucking Whedon!

engenda spotting the invite at almost the last minute (well, not quite, but it felt like it), she, sinden, hnix, meelie, alasen, eponymous and I had drinks with JOSS WHEDON this evening. And about 40-50 other people too, but did I mention - JOSS WHEDON!
He's in Australia to promote Serenity, and decided to meet up with fans at a pub, The Orient, near where he's staying in Sydney. It was really relaxed and nice, everyone was really cool. At first, we were in the beer garden out the back, but ended up overflowing, so were able to move upstairs, which meant most people could sit. Joss mingled, took photos, signed autographs, admired (and fondled) Angel puppets, and was generally incredibly charming and wonderful, especially since he only got in this morning, and jet lag must have been kicking in a bit. I got to sit right near him for a while outside, and he sat at our table first after the shift to the upstairs room. He said it was the first time he's gone up and sat at a table full of women he didn't know without being scared. He was told he'd be scared once he got to know us. He declared that we were his favourite table, that he'd be thinking of us when he was visiting other tables. He also left stuff he'd been handed (and possibly his own stuff, we were good and didn't go through it) at our table, so he had to come back. Yikes, I'm gonna switch to points.
Outside
- when asked about Wonder Woman, there was joking about whether he'd written stuff. He claimed to have written very important things like "she should be cool. Bad Guy = Evil. She should take the form of a bat! No, cross that out." and there was something about a stoat.
- he gushed about Veronica Mars, and Sin and I were the only people nearby who'd seen it as well and could gush too. He was talking about he, his wife and his niece rationing it out, only 5 eps a day so he could also get work done. He asked them if they wanted him to get any work done and keep a roof over their heads or watch VM, and there was inability to answer this.
- someone asked if they could ask a question, and he joked about not being there to talk, just to bask. So Sin and I started to do a little "we're not worthy" worshipping bit. He let us do it for a few seconds, waved at us to stop, then decided he wanted some more. His little hand gestures are so cute. In fact, everything about him is adorable, and we all wanted to keep him.
- when asked if he'd do something like this in another country, he said "there's only one answer I can really give - of course not!"
Inside
- I got a picture with him. He looks scared.
- We gushed about how much we loved Serenity. He checked to see which version(s) we'd seen.
- We got to write little notes that someone from the Browncoats is going to give to him later. We had much fun writing them.
- His glass of beer was sitting on our table for quite a while, and we were hoping he'd forget it, so we could swipe it, get his DNA, and make our own mini-Josses! I think we were a trifle overexcited at that point.
- He spoke to people's friends on the phone.
- So many giddy fanboys! It was very sweet.
- Apparently he can do an English accent well enough to fool Brits (though he didn't demonstrate). When asked about whether he can do an Aussie accent (virtually no non-Aussies can), he talked about how there's nothing worse than someone doing an accent when they were in that country *and* they can't do it. When they were in Scotland, he told Nathan Fillion that it was likely that the Scots didn't find Nathan's attempts at a Scottish accent as cute as Joss found it.
- He shrank himself down to her height when we forcedhnix to have a photo taken with him (she was shy). It was so funny the way he did it.
- We left before he did. We were getting very hungry, and had had quite a bit of Joss time already, and he was still circulating. So we said bye (we had to - we had to give him back the stuff we were minding), and we checked that we were still his favourites. He said that every other table was a pale imitation of us. Then we went to Pancakes! And of course put on pop videos on the video jukebox, andengenda was doing quite well at identifying which sparkly boy is which.
Seriously, most wonderful man ever! So generous, friendly, nice, cute, funny...I could just type superlatives all night. So glad I wasn't responsible and stayed home to study for my test tomorrow. Oh that...fuck.
