Same-sex marriage in California

I haven't seen this mentioned on my friendslist, the California Legislature became the first legislative body in the US to allow same-sex marriages.

Will it become law? Is it likely that Schwarzenegger will refuse to sign it, and what happens then?

Congrats to California if it does pass!

As for the Governator, I think it's a crapshoot. I also think it's time to start mustering the phone banks (and I'm sure I have e-mail from the HRC, etc., already).

I've seen some stuff about them looking at a tour here after Japan (which would be in January, but February would be a great birthday present *g*). I've got my fingers and toes crossed, but am a little afraid of getting my hopes up too.

As far as I know, Vermont already allows same-sex marraiges....so Cali, isn't the first...

I'm not entirely sure...I thought it was marriage. I remember when Kevin from BSB got marrried, one of my friends who was anti-BSB was saying, "did he get married in Vermont", insinuating that he was gay. And I remember reading an article about same sex marriages in Vermont...but I could be totally wrong...I've been wrong before...

I was just reading an article about the CA legislation (which the governor is going to veto, sadly), and there was this bit which clarifies the situation.

The vote made the Assembly the first legislative body in the nation to approve same-sex marriage. Gay-marriage licenses in Massachusetts and civil unions in Vermont were granted through court rulings.

I thought they didn't call them marriages in Vermont, but I was wrong about the term, they call it civil unions.
