Aug. 21st, 2005 01:10 pmI'm being very non-social this weekend. Combination of laziness, wanting to try and get rid of this damned cough that's come back, and needing to do some study - I've got two tests tomorrow, first of the semester.
Though that's only been non-social in person. Both yesterday and today I've woken up before 7am, yikes, way to early for a weekend. But it's meant I've gotten to chat to
trumpeterofdoom,
deliberatehips,
canadiankracka and
sinden on AIM, and hang out in an hysterical chat in #pnp, so that was very good.
Pet peeve that I've been running into a lot lately: stories archived in a gazillion short parts. I'm doing most of my reading on my PDA, and going through and saving 27 parts for one story is so frustrating. This is particularly an issue trying to read HP stuff, as I have been, cause that's how Skyhawke and some other places are set up.
Oh my god, this was so well done. Just, the McKay and Sheppard show, guest starring Zelenka. Everyone's already mentioned all the good stuff, like McKay commenting on how Sheppard's face lights up, and the asking for trust, and the begging for forgiveness etc etc. McKay's giddiness was just delightful. More food-related banter for McKay and Ronon.
I've seen comments that this was supposed to air before "Condemned"? That fits so well. So why the change? Was it so this episode would air further away from the anniversaries of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? My sister commented after the first shots of the planet's surface that it reminded her of them.
It's good to see Teyla doing things involving the Athosians, nice to see interaction between her and Ronon, and more backstory for him is good (though he did come out of it looking like a bit of a prick - fucking up the negotiations and then using her like that). However, their subplot was problematic for a couple of reasons: towards the end of the episode, it really interfered with the suspense of the A-plot, and it made the timing of the A-plot even more ridiculous than the constraints of a tv show normally make such things. They should have been spending weeks (months more likely, but yeah, tv) on investigating and experimenting with the device, but it all took place within the couple of days that Teyla and Ronon were offworld? Give me a break.
But that's a relatively minor concern against the wonderfulness that was this episode.
Finding stuff for my BSB footage posts was fun, I love being able to share new crack (or old favourite crack they haven't seen in a while) with people :) And speaking of crack (though this is the bad stuff), this is for
canadiankracka.
+ The Worst Song Ever aka All I Have To Give (Part II - The Conversation Mix)
Seriously, have they tried to brainwash Howie into heterosexuality through hypnotic suggestions linking food and women?
And now I must go do more study for Management Accounting Principles.

(It really is the most terrible thing ever. Which is exactly why I picked it for some BSB fic challenge a few years ago. :-) )

Date: 2005-08-21 07:35 am (UTC)That's a good thought! I'd really like to know why they changed the order of the episodes, since they actually pay attention to continuity it doesn't make much sense to through such a pivotal episode around like this. But. Best. Episode. Ever! This is one I'll need to rewatch 4793462 times, I believe. :D

Date: 2005-08-21 10:48 am (UTC)That was a very confusing sentence, but I mean I think that's why that explanation occurred to me as soon as I saw references to the order being changed.

Oh man, yes. There's no need for it at all. Or if you must do it that way at least upload the full story too.

Date: 2005-08-21 11:47 am (UTC)Do you happen to have any more performances online from the CBS "Larger than Life" tv concert in 2001?
(PS, you have my sympathy for studying Management Accounting--I'm doing accountancy degree on the Gold Coast and that was one of the hardest subjects I've done!)

Re: Random stranger
Date: 2005-08-22 04:42 am (UTC)Management accounting is hard, but I'm finding it interesting. The test today turned out to be surprisingly straightforward, but the open book test we had in tax procedures was damn hard *g*.
