Rambling about stuff I've been enjoying

Apart from you-know-what (and if you don't know what, see my last six posts. That's just sad...)
House. I've read some very good stories for it too, but I'm more in it for the show - there's a very good balance between the interesting medical plots, and the House/Wilson that makes me squee.
Dr Who. I have insane love for this show. Just...wow. It's the Dr Who I remember from my childhood, only better (I watched Dr Who quite a bit, mostly Tom Baker, but haven't seen much of it in the last dozen years, so memories are faded). And so British. British SF has such as different flavour to it than American. The idea of the Doctor being paired with anyone always struck me as deeply wrong. I deeply disliked the 8th Doctor telemovie from the 90s, for a number of reasons (though not Paul McGann, he was fabulous), but I hated him and the woman in that. But this doctor and Rose are so cute together, and throwing Captain Jack into the mix was sheer genius. I don't know if I want to read fic about anyone getting together, but I love their dynamic. Wonder if there are going to be any 9th Doctor novels?
Queer As Folk. I'm only up to 5x05, but there's stuff I've been enjoying, thoughnot the stupid custody fight, that made everyone look bad, glad it seems to be settled. I'm unspoiled for the ending of the show, I need to get and watch the rest as soon as possible.
Atlantis. Fun fun show, with ooodles of good fanfiction. I didn't get into through the fanfic, didn't really read any until I finished watching S1, but I've been devouring it ever since. And if someone loved me (and wanted to freak the hell out of
sinden), they'd write me McKay/Jonas fic ;)
The Veronica Mars virtual season that
theohara is writing. I was awake til midnight last night (when I went to bed early cause I was so tired) reading it. I adore my PDA, but when you have no self-control, it can be a bad bad thing that keeps you up when you should be asleep.
Underwater Light by Maya. I've seen recs for this for yonks, but always avoided reading it until I heard it was complete. So very good! Now I'm in the mood for more Harry/Draco, recs anyone?
Sadly, I have been caught by a WIP though - Visiting Hours by
rageprufrock. I was reading it before I went away, and caught up during the week. Luckily, I managed not to get ensnared by her SGA story Hindsight while it was still a WIP (despite friends trying to tempt me), but she finished it and it's very good, so yay!

Date: 2005-08-13 11:25 am (UTC)Oh, yes. I find the idea of the ninth doctor pairing up a little less traumatic, though. I'm not sure if it's because he isn't one of my childhood doctors, or because he is quite flirty, and that makes it easier to imagine. Probably a little of both. (Plus, for companions, Jack and Rose have a pretty equal and adult relationship with him, which I think helps.)

There are some listed pre-publication on amazon.co.uk. I haven't preordered any yet, because I'm cheap and I wait for paperbacks, but they look like they might be fun. I didn't spot any episode novelisations, though, they all seemed to be new adventures (and most of them had Captain Jack :-)

Date: 2005-08-13 11:06 pm (UTC)And thanks for the heads up about the books, shall definitely have to keep an eye open for them. Never read any Dr Who novels before, but for 9th Doctor, Rose *and* Captain Jack, I'll check them out for sure.

Date: 2005-08-13 11:45 am (UTC)I've read a couple of not-bad doctor/rose and doctor/rose/jack stories. Also I'm sure I saw books in Kino last time with 9th doctor covers.
