If you were going to show some short clips of Nsync and BSB footage to explain the appeal of the fandom to people unfamiliar with it, what would you show? What were the first pieces of footage you saw that made you like the guys? The whole thing would be 20-30 minutes maximum.

Armageddon'sync is one of the first things that comes to mind for me, but what else? Performances, interviews, whatever.

Oooooh, I think of the BBB video! I love that one! And when they sing "Oh Holy Night" during *Ntimate Holiday* - that really showcases their vocal talents. And of course, who can forget last year's National Anthem at Challenge. There are so many different things, but those are the first ones that came to my mind.

O Holy Night is definitely a good one, to show that they really can sing ;) I don't know if them singing the anthem at CFTC last year would have much resonance for non-fans though.

Thanks!

Fandom Conversion in 5 easy steps:

1. SNL appearance (skits only, maybe BBB, but not ITSK, unless it's for the frantic eye contact they try to make with each other to get back on-key).
2. Making the Tour immediately followed by the MSG show.
3. Larry King Interview.
4. Making the Video for Pop
5. Atlantis Concert

All excellent stuff, but I'll have to edit my post - this is for a pimpage session of 20-30 minutes maximum. But the No Refunds skit from SNL is a must ::makes notes::

For me, it was Disney in Concert, but I think what - performance wise - really impressed me the most are: MTV Performances, specially *NSYNC's 1999 (Dance moves) & 2000 (The TV special effects), and *N'SYNC's Blockbuster Award performance of Sailing.

Well it's not something that's on a tape, but if you can find a way to show them the *NSYNC Unedited Holiday Message that was up, I'd do it. That's them in all their hilarity.

The clips will get put together on computer and either burnt to dvd or shown via a computer hooked up to a tv, so digitised footage is better :)

Definitely the 2000 VMA performance! I watched that with several people who had never paid the slightest bit of attention to *NSYNC, and that performance was the one from the evening they all talked about the most! They thought it was brilliant! :-)

The first Backstreet appearance I ever saw was them on The View when they performed INBYH and ALAYLM. The interview segment was really cute, especially with the little girl that was in remission. I think that's one thing I would show. Another would be when they surprised AJ on Oprah. And my mind just went blank.

Hmm JC and Lance gazing adoringly at each other in MSG, also JC's little smile at Lance during TIPY at the aquarium in Atlantis. Justin smacking Joey's ass, where is that from - the making of BBB?

Chris telling Justin to go get Lance to come play with him from Reel Nsync. ooh Larry King. when Chris announces Lance is dating him - which honestly is the very best of a spectularly bad interview.*hates on Larry King*

Much - when Joey says, 'I love Justin' as per his headband.

Geez, there is no Backstreet love on this thread at all.

The Rosie appearance when they play Backstreet Blitz. They were cute, and didn't know the answers to any of the questions about themselves, and Brian tried to switch sides and play with the fans so he could win.

AJ and Howie shopping in NYC during the Disney concert. "Uh-oh, AJ found hats." EVERYONE loves that part of the show, even my parents.

On a not as happy note, the TRL appearance when they annouce AJ's rehab. It's sad and awful, but there's so much love there.

Another favorite of mine is Kevin ragging on Nick during their 100 hour tour in Tokyo. When they're in the van with the reporters and Kevin's complaining about Nick's attention span. Nick and Brian dancing on the plane as they land in NYC is also good. Dorks.

For *NSync:
*play them any acapella recording. "When You Wish Upon A Star" is my favorite.
*Donny & Marie when they showed the guys' baby & childhood pics and the last one was of Joey in drag
*Live @ MSG, which is what morphed me from fan into addict. Extra points on this one if you have a subwoofer and turn it up a little.... oh, Lance.

for BSB:
*Howard Stern, when they brought gifts for him of posters of themselves and some lube.
*The AJ in rehab announcement on TRL. I wasn't a fan @ the time but they won my respect by being straightforward in a difficult situation.
*The IWITW vid. Sorry, QPG creeps me the fuck out.
*boys on poles, live.

I like BSB but I'm an *NSync junkie and I think it shows. *sigh*

Hmm. Let's see.

For the Boys
Singing Like A Child from A Night Out With the Backstreet Boys
Rehearsing the dance for As Long As You Love Me from the All Access Video (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6304959729/qid=1116747668/sr=1-17/ref=sr_1_17/102-4431335-0906531?v=glance&s=video) w/ Fatima shouting "go B-Rok, it's your birthday" and Brian being all adorably "I know."
MTV Diary of the Backstreet Boys during the photo shoot at the Catholic girls school in Australia, where Kevin and Nick are talking about having to do "cheesy ass shit-" "don't say that. I did, but you're gonna bleep that out."
And okay, really the thing that cinched it for me is Let's Have a Party from the Live in Concert in Frankfurt video (Circa '97). Nick is 11 (okay, 17, but come ON), and the outfits are god awful but I just. Don't know. That did it for me. And ideally, if you had the time, you should just watch the whole thing. And laugh. And get all mushy inside.

How about the one where 'N Sync was introduced to this kid (Kevin?) and they were just oh-so-cute when interacting with the kid? There was burping and poor Lance was ignored by the kid.

And the TRl appearance during the promo for NSA, where there were this huge puppets of the guys up. It was some game between the fans and the guys. But I like the bit on when the Joey puppet fell, all the guys started kicking it. That was hilarious!

I know I've so much more on 'N Sync but at the moment I'm just drawing up blanks. And all the old clips I have are all at my computer with a 5hrs plane ride from where I am now.

Oh, Oh! The bloopers of Chris, Justin and JC trying to introduce themselves on some MTV thing (their favourite video?)over and over again. That was so funny! They were such dorks! Generally, besides their singing and dancing, it was their dorkiness that made me like them so much!

All BSB, since there's a lot of votes for the *NSYNC ones.

- Footage from the 1999 European tour. "My hand, dumbass!"
- that one part at the end of the 1997 Live in Concert video from that concert in Germany, where AJ and Brian grab each other and grin widely for the camera
- any footage of Kevin promoting Chicago, the Billy Flynn look is really, really lethal. Just a second or two of him looking gorgeous should be enough *g*
- that insane Japanese show (is it Love Love Aishiteru?) where Brian's got the incredulous look on his face and ends up banging his shin
- Backstreet Blitz, specifically the parts where they get confused as to who is who, and the Funky Chickens part.
- the taping up of Howie in the What's Going On video. The making of clip might be more hilarious though
- the dressing room skit from the Black and Blue tour

Date: 2005-05-22 09:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kikiduck.livejournal.com
Wait, is there a copy of the dressing room skit around anywhere? Because I would give up something equivilent to my first-born child to have it.

I suppose the same goes for Backstreet Blitz, really. I have the first part of the show, but otherwise it's just my poor worn out VHS.

I haven't read through the comments, so there might be some repeats here. Eep.

For N Sync, the only thing I've got is the Jay Leno interview where Chris talks about the bus and the canoe. It's the only piece of Sync footage I have and it SLAYS me. There's "because, yes" and Joey being cute and Chris and his hand and, yes, there is no bad here.

For BSB, some songs from A Night Out, definitely. Like Who Do You Love and the medley. And then there's Brian's "HOWARD! Censor!" from the All Access video. And the OLFC clip where they're being dressed up as old men and making crack jokes. And the MTV News interview announcing AJ's rehab where Nick actually speaks, because it shows so much love and it breaks me. I know there's heaps more, but it looks like you've got lots of suggestions up there. :)

You know what gets me EVERY time? The Olympics' National Anthem. I have a weak spot for them doing anything with such heavy harmonies and especially anything a capella. *g* And it never ceases to amaze me that Chris is one of the few people I have ever heard hit that high note and sounding like it's the most normal thing in the world and not that he's reaching for it. I think it's sometihng that showcases their vocal abilities very well. Oh, and uh... The BeeGees Medley (because I'm a geek). . . *g*

Coming in late in the game...

for BSB, I love the whole AJ Kevin interaction when AJ makes his geographical error on the Around the World television special:

"South Africa, you dildo!"
"Well, Kevin just called me a dildo."

And "Hey, Mr. DJ" and "Lay Down Beside Me" from the Homecoming concert...

And I personally love the "For the Fans" video tape...

Could I slip a couple requests in here? Does anyone know where I could find the "Disney show" (with the shopping) and the TV special they did for the "Around the World" tour?

I have the Around the world dvd but it's not the same...

The website is finally back up, I can start recommending this again.

Backstreet Hub - file sharing network using DC++ software (if you're on a PC, there's a Mac equivalent). It looks fiddly to setup, but it's not too bad, it's how I've gotten a lot of Backstreet footage (I share about 30 gig on there *g*).

Both the Disney concert and the tv special are amongst the many gig of footage that get shared on there.

Thanks for the suggestions! :)
