Farewell, Andre Norton.

She was an incredibly influential writer, especially as one of the first major female writers of fantasy. She was the first woman to receive the Grand Master of Fantasy Award.

If I was at home, I'd be re-reading one of the Gryphon books tonight I suspect.

I'm feeling irrationally guilty about this, since dad and I had a conversation earliar in the week, and I I couldn't recall if she was still alive at first, but dad was fairly sure she was, and after thinking about it, I agreed he was right. And then I see a mention of this on friendsfriends.

Oh, man. That's just... She's my childhood, you know? Well, late childhood/teens, but still. Ack. At least she had a long life--we lost Jo Clayton too young.

She must have been that for many many people over many years :)

Oh, wow.

It's been almost 30 years since I read my first AN book, Iron Magic.

(And several years ago I got a reference question at work as to whether or not she was still alive or not. Well, we can't find any indication that she's died...)

Thanks for the info.

Hmmm, now I'm wondering which was my first Norton book. May have been Witch World, but I'm not sure...
