I probably won't get another chance, so here's wishing you all a Happy New Year! Here's hoping 2005 gets off to a better start than the way 2004 is ending.

I'm looking into getting a digital camera for my birthday. At the moment, the frontrunner is the Canon Powershot A75. It's 3.2 megapixel camera with a 3x zoom. Anyone got other recommendations, suggestions of features that are good/not good, thoughts, anything? I've never had a digital camera before.

I've been looking at Choice magazine, and at these websites: Imaging Resources and CNet.

That is the camera I have and I love it to bits and pieces. Because of the lenses, it takes better pictures than my friend's 5.0 megapixel camera. Let's just call this a recommendation:)

Thanks, that's a very useful recommendation :) Have you ever had a problem with the viewfinder not being entirely accurate? Just an issue I read about.

I don't actually use the viewfinder so I have no idea. I'm also pretty bad about taking pictures at the highest resolution and then cropping them later anyway.

Oh! The vid I took of Chris in Dallas was on my Canon!

That's good quality video (both technically and in content *g*). Thanks!

One thing to think about is the batteries that the camera takes. I purposely bought one that takes AA batteries because I hate having to buy special batteries for things. Sadly it looks like the brief trend for having AA or AAA's in cameras is almost over. I can highly recommend the Sony digital cameras and definitely not the Kodak's. I dunno about the Canon. Also is the zoom digital or optical. I think optical is better, digital is kind of a cheat. If you need any more info I'll ask the boything or my friends G and N as they are all photography freaks.

It's 3x optical zoom, which seems pretty standard, to get more you're looking at quite a price jump. It takes 4xAA batteries, which looks good, I might invest in some rechargables, or have option of just putting in some regular ones. I'm gonna try and get out to shops today or tomorrow to have a look, I might have more questions after that, thanks! :)

My Dad and my bro both have the Sony Cybershot - it's really easy to use, the pics come out great - as do the vids and it comes with easy to use software for downloading.
