It's my birthday next month (whoop de fucking doo, I'm getting even older), but I would like to use it as an excuse to be sociable, cause I'm kind of failing at that lately (and by lately, I mean always).

Locals, if you're free next Saturday night (February 6th), I hope you'll be able to come out for drinks and/or dinner. I'm thinking cocktails at 5pm (or drinks somewhere we can sit and hear ourselves), dinner at 7 or so, place (probably in the city) to be determined soon. Suggestions welcome.

Thoughts upon re-reading the Valdemar books

why can't Mercedes Lackey keep her own canon straight? I know it's a danger in writing things not in chronological order, and a fair bit can be hand-waved, but there's enough that makes me very grrrrr that neither she nor her editors seemed to have re-read her own previous books when preparing a new one.

I haven't re-read the Vanyel books this time around, if I want over-the-top angst about horrible things happening to gay woobies in love, I'll watch NCIS LA.

With the constant descriptions of the complete fabulousness of Tayledras and Kaled'a'in costumes, and their kinkiness openminded-ness, there totally needs to be an AU where Adam Lambert is one. And if he's a mage, we already know what he'd look like with the hair! And Kris could be a Herald or Valdemar bard. And then they make out.

Though I don't know I've ever read any fanfic crossing over with these books, which surprises me. And reminds me of the bandom Pern AU that I wish I could make someone write.
