I saw the Queen musical "We Will Rock You" at the Lyric Theatre last night. Indifferent dinner before-hand (I don't recommend the buffet), but quite good seats, middle of the fourth row of the dress circle. Which was particularly good at we got the seats at a good price through a friend of my sister-in-law (who organised it), only fifty three dollars.

I love Queen. Big huge mad love. And the show has all the big hits. And it is fucking funny (which I wasn't expecting. But sadly, I wasn't enthralled, because of the singing. For some reason, there was a tendency to yell rather than sing properly. And sadly, the lead guy was the worst offender. I don't know whether he just isn't that good a singer, or if it was cause he was trying to keep the terrible accent he was speaking with, or what, but damn his delivery annoyed me for most of the show. I'd see the show again in a heartbeat - if they changed half the leads and guaranteed that they would sing.

But it is very very funny, and a bunch of it is Australian-specific *g*.

Was it not worth the ticket price then? Because I was thinking of going to see it. Ticket prices at the Lyric are always steep though, so I don't want to shell out that much for a show that really won't be worthwhile. And I'd mainly be going for the singing myself.

I didn't consider the $50 wasted or anything, but I may have been a lot more annoyed if I'd paid $90 or something. Most of the people I was with adored it, despite some of them agreeing with me on the singing, so it's a tough call. Sorry, not much help there.

I saw it in Melbourne and *loved* it. Mind you, this was over a year ago in a different city, so cast changes are probably involved. I agree, the funnies were the best part.

Not being musical myself, I find it hard to describe my problem with the singing. It's was part yelling, part sliding around the note, just generally a bit odd with the phrasing. I was really looking forward to it, so I was a bit sad that I kept getting put off by the singing rather than gettting really into it. The best sung song was probably "Only the Good Die Young" by Oz.

I'm going to be seeing it when it comes to T.O.,, uh... sometime in the next year. I can't remember when that is, but I'm looking forward to it.

You should, it's very good, and hopefully the cast you have will sing properly ;)

I saw it last year - and fell asleep twice! yes really. I was disappointed in the show, I don't know why exactly... there was just something not quite right. I should probably point out I fell asleep because I was so damn tired, having been up for half the night and then attending the matinee performance. *g*

Oh dear, that wasn't good. I liked the show, just wish the singing hadn't affected my enjoyment of it.

I wanted to see it when I was in London in March, but I didn't get a chance. Maybe next year or so. I love Queen, Freddy Mercury has one of the best voices.

I hope you do get a chance to see it, it is a great show. And he really did, there were some parts of the show that almost made me cry.

It's really a shame that he had to go so soon.

Queen! My favorite band of all time. I'd love to see the musical, but as you said, a bad lead singer would definitely ruin it. That sucks that happened to make it a not so wonderful time for you.

If you get a chance to see it, I'd recommend it (as hopefully you'd have a better lead singer). I love Queen, and I thought it was a great show (apart from some of the actual singing *g*).
