Just got back from seeing Star Trek at IMAX with [livejournal.com profile] iibnf, [livejournal.com profile] alasen, [livejournal.com profile] meelie, some people from Al's work, my sister and her friend N. First time seeing an actual movie (as opposed to made-for-IMAX documentaries) that I've seen there, and first time I've been in years. That was...interesting, but worth it.

Going in to this, I was fighting against the urge to pre-emptively get loldefensive against this film's existence, fighting against being overly nitpicky or getting hung up on them changing things. I did want to give the film a chance. Given my mixed feelings about it, I hadn't really been paying attention and knew very little by way of spoilers.

I FUCKING ADORED IT.

♥____♥

I AM NOT EXAGGERATING TO SAY I HAD HEARTS IN MY EYES. I MADE AUDIBLE SOUNDS OF DELIGHT MORE THAN ONCE, AS WELL AS LAUGHING MYSELF SILLY QUITE A BIT.

OH MY GOD, THAT WAS JUST SO GOOD. WE WERE SO FLAILY AND SHOUTY ABOUT OUR LOVE AFTERWARDS.

And N has only passing familiarity with Trek, and she really enjoyed it.

I went in completely unspoiled apart from casting and a vague idea about Romulans, but I was quite optimistic about it, no defensive nitpickery here, I was quite excited.

I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED OMG.

I was looking forward to it (wouldn't have been at IMAX first week it opened otherwise *g*) but worried I wasn't going to like it. Yay for being wrong!

TELL YOUR SISTER SHE SENT US TO OUR DEATHS.
Seriously, we had to ask a random guy which way was the exit. So many lounge chairs, so few signage which led to actual doors.

I was a little bit worried, but not too much, since I was never hugely into TOS. TNG has always been my favorite, but even my mom, who has been into Star Trek since always, loved every second of it. Ugh, I want to see it again and again and again!

HELL I'M A TREK NEWBIE (only knew names and basic background) AND EVEN I WAS FLAILING AND SQUEEING LIKE CRAZY DURING AND AFTER THE MOVIE. AND OMG THE OST WAS AMAZING ALSO.

They've done so well at making it enjoyable to fans and non-fans alike!
