This was such a great weekend. Packed
jocondite off to the airport at the crack of dawn, then
not_nele and I followed at a only-slightly-more civilised time. We were on the same flight, only a few rows in front, as
f_lexi_ble and H-of-unknown-lj.
not_nele lost her boarding pass temporarily (left where we bought snacks *g*). The best part was the surprisingly delicious PINK CUPCAKES that we got as morning tea, om nom nom nom (scored another which I kept as post-concert snack).
Using Jetbus to get to our hotel went pretty well, apart from the driver calling us, all "why aren't you here yet?" when it was well before the time we'd booked. The best part was when, as he was dropping us off, he commented (warned?) that there was a lot of young girls around, they were in Melbourne for some concert.
not_nele and I almost lost it, but managed to tell him that yeah, we were here for that too :D Poor
jocondite had been having a bit of a time of it, as the hotel lost our booking for a while. But the awesomeness of our suite (for the three of us and
indybrat, plus
notyourfriend and
watchmecorrode crashed with us too) made up for a lot.
It was huge and so fucking gorgeous. Two bedrooms (1 queen bed, 1 with 2 singles), 2 bathrooms, laundry facilities, big kitchen, big living/dining room, and quite a nice view from the balcony as we were on the 15th floor. We all wanted to move in, it was too short a visit to properly appreciate it (and it was cheaper per person than the smaller, normal hotel room in Brisbane). This is the living room (the couches made a nice enough little bed when pushed together).

This is looking straight out across towards Rod Laver Arena (the concert venue), it was a 15 minute walk, if that?

Looking down Flinders St.

We found
indybrat, and headed off for lunch (
not_nele and I had a total mindmeld going on about wanting the Mexican we'd had when last in Melbourne for BSB). We were eventually joined by many other people, including
f_lexi_ble, H,
lisanaterel,
notyourfriend and
watchmecorrode (and
restriction? or did I not see her til outside the venue?). The whole next day or so was like this, kept meeting up with shifting groups of people, some whom I'd met before, some new, then wandering off and then finding people again later. It was awesome, I wish every weekend was so fangirl filled :)
Some of us headed out to the venue, for hanging out, and then divided as some headed in for M&G, while us poor deprived remnants *sniff sniff* hung around and watched the people queuing up for the floor. It was brilliant, from inappropriate outfits to the ineffectual guy yelling for a long time with instructions that no one was listening to. We really wanted to be able to break it to them that there were people with EE that were going to beat them barrier no matter how long they'd been waiting, just to make them cry (lol sociopaths). Spotted Jack the Camera Guy filming from the top of the stairs, shortly before theyreleased the hounds let the fans in. And he stayed there during the rush up the stairs (fans silhouetted against the setting sun, it was quite poetic), and while people did manage to not trample him, there was some significant fondling and feeling up going on.
We headed inside soon after the initial rush, since it was getting chilly, and checked out the merch (to my disappointment this tour, there wasn't anything I wanted to buy, even though I came prepared to spend money). We also got drinks (world's worst champagne!) and got stared at by teenies when we did the Guilty Pleasure dance while listening to Cobra soundcheck. In a very important note that I will follow up in my actual concert post, at some point
notyourfriend declared that if she could see Gabe in tight white pants, she could die happy :D
Gathered up a few people after the concert and wandered back to hotel, still on a high of concert awesomeness. Grabbed snacks at the overpriced convenience store next door, and sat around chatting and squeeing until exhaustion overcame us. We kind of fail at setting a thermostat appropriately, and subsequently spent a rather warm night /o\
Six fangirls getting ready in the morning in one hotel room is actually surprisingly manageable when you've got two bathrooms :D We headed off for the meetup that'd been suggested by
jezzabe at the pancake restaurant. We were the first group there, and let them know that we were in a group of about twenty people. WE LIED. There was totally about 40 people who showed up - the noise was impressive. I made the world's failiest voicepost about it.
Afterwards, people wandered off in different directions, but like I mentioned, kept crossing paths for the next few hours. My day included laying around in
f_lexi_ble and H's hotel room while
watchmecorrode made put an actual song on my phone as a ringtone (it was like magic! I am phone impaired). It's The Call by Backstreet, naturally :) We also spent a little while in JB Hifi, where 5 copies of TAI's "Fast Times" album were purchased in a row (the first one wasn't even anyone with us!)
Afterwards, I modelled some cds, a la Pete with The Hush Sound. Well, sort of. (picture stolen from
notyourfriend)

I really didn't want to leave, but eventually
jocondite and I tore ourselves away and headed back to the airport. Got out there almost too early, but after the nightmares some girls had with flights this week, I really didn't mind. Melbourne airport, domestic terminal at least, didn't have a freaking net cafe or anything that I could find! I was totally prepared to waste money too. Flight was packed and a little late - Qantas must have had to cancel an earlier flight or something because there was quite a few people on standby waiting for space on our flight. Oh Qantas. When I'd got home, watched lots of familiar faces in the audience at Panic performing on Rove and was jealous and missed everyone like crazy ♥
