I saw Prince Caspian last night with
iibnf and
hnix. I thought I wasn't remembering the book very well, but no, after speed re-reading it when I got home last night, it turns out they just made most of that up. Including the White Witch actually appearing, but that made
hnix happy after I inadvertantly lied about Tilda Swinton not being in it :)
After re-reading the book I understood why they wanted to change a fair bit of stuff, but the problem was that the changes weren't necessarily improvements - Caspian was a cipher, the pacing was off and the Caspian/Susan was pasted on. During the scene at the end where Caspian is wearing a skirt and staring at Susan, who is walking with Aslan and Pete,
hnix whispered to me "how embarrassing, they're wearing the same couch cover". Also, the song when they returned was lame.
Which isn't to say that I disliked the movie completely, but it could have been better. I did like them mentioning problems the four kids had returning to the real world and their real ages, after ruling in Narnia for years and years as adults. I was so glad Susan got to kick some ass, but it made me even angrier about her ultimate fate in the Narnia books. But I do believe that making a movie of The Last Battle is impossible, so I'll never have to watch that be talked about in movie-verse.
Also, Caspian's resemblance to William Beckett (with a touch of Mike Carden, especially the hair) was amusing. (Speaking of which, I am still lol-ing about the song title from the upcoming TAI album, After The Last Midtown Show. If that isn't about sex with Gabe...I have no way of finishing that sentence, because honestly, whatever the lyrical content turns out to be, I will almost certainly believe it's sex with Gabe :D
Afterwards, we had pizza and
hnix cried until they changed their mind about being out of bananas for the dessert (ok, she was just laughing really hard, but
iibnf told the waiter he'd made her cry, and they somehow miraculously turned out to have banana. Coincidence? we don't think so).
I really want to make cupcakes. Maybe chocolate ones. But am going to go back to tidying up my wardrobe instead.
