All dressed up with no where to go
Jul. 7th, 2007 07:46 pmI'm not being very sociable this weekend, because I have my supplementary Economics exam on Tuesday. I had made an exception for a dinner tonight I'd agreed to a while ago - a school friend was going to be in Sydney (from Darwin). Just before I was going to leave, I checked my phone - she'd changed where we were all meeting to Newtown, a lot further away from home than the original place. This meant a) parking hassles, b) I was going to be significantly late and c) it was going to be a later evening than I wanted. So I cancelled, without too many qualms given the very short notice. Plus, hopefully I'll be able to meet up with her next Saturday night instead. I'd have been less annoyed about it if I'd seen the message before spending fifteen minutes on makeup.
Study also means I can't catch up with some visiting friends from QLD this weekend *pouts*. Study sucks.
Spoke to
trumpeterofdoom briefly - she's in the middle of nowhere (ie north Wales) and it's been raining. A lot.
I got chatted up by a nice young American sailor in Borders yesterday afternoon (one of the eight thousand plus who are in Sydney at the moment - the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk and 4 other ships arrived Thursday). I was looking at Star Wars novels and he struck up a conversation about them. I thought it was just my usual luck of attracting fellow geeks (seriously, pick up a Dr Who dvd in JB HiFi - a fanboy will start talking to you, guaranteed), didn't even click where he was from until he made reference to the amount of room he has (ie not much) for gear on board the ship. We chatted about books and mp3 players and shopping for a bit.
Oh well - at least my lack of social life means I'll be able to watch the rugby tonight.
I wish I could jet over to New York to catch Lance in Hairspray! I'd bemoan my lack of lottery winning, but I guess I really should buy a ticket before I do that...
