CHANNEL Seven will broadcast two of its cult import dramas, Heroes and Prison Break on the same day as their US screenings in a ploy to lure drifting audiences away from DVDs and the internet.

Though I don't know why they'd bother doing the same for Age of Love, the reality dating show with Mark Philippoussis. It'll be interesting to see if Aussie audiences adapt to the US schedule of lots of repeats during the season.

It will be interesting to see if it works. I'll give C7 their due, at least they're considering and trying this out.

I'm so used to the idea of 'on demand' television now that I can barely comprehend sticking to a tv network's schedule!

Yup, gotta give them credit for not sticking their head in the sand still.

You mean they noticed? I'm amazed. I don't know why they think that this'll stop me downloading, but nice try. *G* I live in one of those blackspots with terrible TV reception. I'd still need to download, regardless.

It's just plain crazy talk!

I haven't heard about them cutting Heroes, and a lot of people would take the trade-off on ads to save time and bandwidth in downloading. It'll be interesting to see if it does help the ratings.

There's also mention that Seven is interested in a TIVO-type system, which would be tempting if I watched more things off tv, cause I'm utterly incapable of remembering when things are on these days (cause I watch so little).

Only reason we have decent tv reception is cable - one of the reasons we got it (the rugby was an even bigger reason *g*).

For s2 of "Heroes," NBC is supposed to air it straight through with only a break over Christmas, so no repeats. They actually didn't show repeats over the first season; the hiatuses they had were filled with other shows, instead, and they think that's the reason that the new episodes after the breaks had ratings drop-offs (duh), so they're trying to stop that from happening again in s2. The only "repeats" were the odd marathon on Saturday nights (usually the last Saturday before the show returned from hiatus), and I think it showed on the Sci-Fi channel, too. Here in Canada "Heroes" was bought by Global and individual affiliate stations, so it could air pretty much any day of the week - which isn't a bad thing when one works shift and wants to watch it on tv instead of computer. :)

No, I agree, it's still not good enough.

Snap, I just read that! Go them for trying, but free-to-air tv is the VERY least attractive option.

Hmmm, that might work better here, thanks! Though I'll still be surprised if they air it here in December/January - it's our non-ratings period, normally they don't show new eps of popular shows then.

Heh, I went looking for the article after hearing about it on the radio. It'll be interesting to see if it works.
