erilyn: gabe and mikey's hips (xmas)

A definition of frustration: there is a brand new computer in the house, however, it isn't coming out of the box til Christmas Eve. Not because it's a present (though it really is), but because there is no time!

Christmas Day, we're going to my brother and sister-in-law's place (since it's their first year in their own home, not couting rentals). And we're not even taking that much food. So this was really shaping up as one of the most relaxing Christmas's ever. So mum decided that tomorrow would be a good day to have 14 adults and 4 kids (family we won't see at Christmas) over for a bbq. I love my family, and haven't seen a number of them much this year, so yay, but mum is incapable of keeping things simple, so there's like 15 million things to cook and prepare.

Hence, having to wait til after this bbq is done to get to play with the computer. Bring on Christmas Eve...

However, I did get to break in a new thing today - Kenny[1] the Kenwood food mixer (with blender and food processor attachments), which while it is mum's Christmas present from dad, is needed now. After I made cupcakes the other week, we found pink fluid leaking out of the old one. It's a bit sad in a way, the old one was a present to mum from her late mother, for either engagement or shower tea. I learnt to cook cakes and pavlovas and all my favourite things in it. On the other hand, this means the old one was almost forty years old ::boggles::

Even more remarkable than the longevity, is how similar Kenny is to the old one. Exactly the same basic design, but swisher looking, and with some new useful stuff (like the splash cover). The bowl is exactly the same size, so we're gonna keep the old one for really busy baking days. There's also a dough beater, which looks so much like a pirate's hook that we can't stop playing with it.

Done - present shopping and wrapping (apart from some plants that need bows on them)
Cooked today - butterfly cakes, potato for salad
To cook today - sweet potato mash, potato salad dressing
Cooking tomorrow - pavlova, other salads and veges

[1] The instructions said that we needed to get to know the machine, and how could we do that without a name?
