what's your fannish dirty little secret?
Oct. 22nd, 2006 09:28 pmLately, I seem to have been collecting a number of het pairings. Not that there's anything wrong with being that way inclined. Some of my best friends write het[1]! But yet, with some of them, I still have that feeling of shaaaame. But confession's supposed to be good for you, right? So here goes.
1. Daniel/Vala (SG1) - compared to the others, I've gotten over any shame regarding these two, really. They're just so cute *and* hot, darn it, and she's really grown. I guess I feel I'm betraying my Jack/Daniel days.
2. Tony/Ziva (NCIS) - Don't judge me! I think there's great chemistry between them, and she'd keep him in line. And possibly a gag and chains.
But you know, #3 makes #2 look positively normal.
3. Lex/Lana (SV) - feel free to defriend me, I'll understand. I'd drifted away from SV massively seasons ago, only seeing the occasional ep. But I started to (re)read a lot of stories during the year, and
iibnf was getting into it too, so we were watching episodes. Then
get__together happened, and
arysteia showed us a bunch of good stuff, hooking us in firmly, so we've been working through S5 since we got back. And Lana's way less irritating and even interesting (I was deeply shocked). And her scenes with Lex are interesting too, and Lex is kinda cute with her. And I'm just Lex's bitch, and I'll just let myself out now...
Actually, I think some of the shame comes from that I have more het pairings I'm interested in on shows I'm currently watching than slash pairings. What a scary thought - I'm losing my slash mojo or something ;)
[1] This is a lie. But I wrote Mulder/Scully *and* Scully/Krycek once upon a time.

Date: 2006-10-22 01:21 pm (UTC)Heh. I went, "Nooo!" out loud when I read this! I never think I have ships in NCIS, but apparently, I do. I sort of liked this pairing early in season 3, but Ziva's characterization annoyed me too much in the later half of that season and season 4 to continue liking it. Nowadays she bugs me too much to pair her with anyone.
I've been re-watching season 2, and I'm getting more of an appreciation for Tony/Kate, though.

Date: 2006-10-22 02:12 pm (UTC)Horatio/Calleigh - CSI:Miami, Hate Horatio on tv. Love him in fic
Abby/Gibbs - NCIS For whatever reason most of this pairing winds up with tons of kink in the fic. I dig it.
Izzy/Michael or Liz/Michael - Roswell, I've lost all my old Roswell links but every once in a while I come across something and read it in these pairings.

Date: 2006-10-22 06:25 pm (UTC)Daniel/Vala is definately one of them. I always hated the Jack/Sam shipping for various reasons, but Daniel/Vala somehow seems right! And I don't feel like I am betraying my dear Jack/Daniel, but then again, I am hopelessly head over heels in love with Daniel/Cameron!! LOL. And I know Jack would approve.
The other really strong het pairing I like is Aeryn/John from Farscape! THAT is probably one of my all time favourite pairings, het or slash! The cannon is just so darn beautiful and real!!!

Date: 2006-10-22 06:38 pm (UTC)I've always been a Jethro/Tony girl, but Ziva has a bit of chemistry with all of the others, IMO.
So far this season, there have been many moments between all of the characters that have made me go Awww! and I am glued to my television every Tuesday night to see what is going to happen next.

Date: 2006-10-23 12:22 am (UTC)I completely understand how you feel. There's some on-screen chemistry that cannot be denied. Mostly I ship het when they hit my very specific kinks (ie: the Han/Leia or Beatrice/Benedick effect). I mean, whether I read Starbuck/Roslin or Starbuck/Apollo depends on the writing. Basically I'm reading for Starbuck contrasted with someone who pushes her buttons and challenges the way she perceives her self-worth. And if there's banter I'll fall.
And I can understand the Lex/Lana a little (mostly because she's got more spunk than Clark).

Date: 2006-10-23 07:21 am (UTC)Such a sad sad indictment on the show!
I guess I only feel guilty when it's in shows where I had a slash OTP, and now I've fallen for a het pairing instead (SG1, SV) or where the pairing just seems kind of wrong (NCIS), cause I certainly have no shame about something like Beatrice/Benedick, or John/Aeryn in Farscape :)

Date: 2006-10-23 08:55 am (UTC)That makes complete sense. I wonder if the same is true in reverse - I'm sure I could read a Benedick/Claudio/Don Pedro fic (if such a thing existed) or even a Beatrice/Margaret fic - just avoid Hero (far too whiny). And Leonato and Antonio are so clearly doing it (especially in the Branagh film where Richard Briars and Brian Blessed are just so clearly in love ;o).
Er... sorry. Don't get me started on Much Ado.
And yes. Clark as played by Mr Wet-around-the-ears-Man does not inspire me to watch the show (although he makes for pretty fic-images). The fic however, is a different story (heh).

Date: 2006-10-28 12:36 am (UTC)And I used to like Clark, but S5 is making me dislike him so much (not so much his treatment of Lex, I'm used to that, but I hate him on Lana's behalf). Clearly, the End of Days is nigh!
